hallux Posted July 31, 2022 #3254 Share Posted July 31, 2022 @debenson0723 I look forward to your info on the Studio cabins on this ship! I have a feeling even those will be a bit rich for me for a while so once I can even afford one it'll be the only way I can board this ship. deliver42 Posted July 31, 2022 #3255 Share Posted July 31, 2022 I just priced a 7 day Western Caribbean for Jan, 2023 out of Port Canaveral with the Free at Sea in a balcony. Price was over $3900.00. I guess I'll stick to the Breakaway and plus classes for a more reasonable price.

I have multiple friends on this sailing so I probably won't spend time in the lounge at all, other than to grab a coffee or snack. If I need additional space, there is the Observation Lounge and waterfront area.

To be honest, it's been awhile since I have been in a studio and I am looking forward to it. I was lucky enough to snag some great last minute deals in the past 9 months so have mainly been in balconies. It will be interesting to have a real bathroom vs. the shower and W/C on the Away class studios.

Yeah, my last 2 have been balconies, but one of the ships didn't even have Studios but the other was about equal cost between studio and balcony... I don´t think so. They get the provision from the US. And they are all the same for all ships. Would be too much of a thing to change the beer as you have to clean everything for a new brand. steamboats

On european sailings, The Duty free shops on the ship had some products that were more dedicated to the european market than the US market. Many years ago, on a TA, I had a chat with one of the duty free manager and he said that most of the goods that were for the european market were on sale (still quite expensive) to make room for new stock that is more american market. But I don't know if they still do that.

Recently, I flew from Athens to Paris. And departures was from the International terminal with access to duty free shops. Same thing when I flew from Frankfurt to Brussels. Also, I have done the Livorno-Civitaveccia- Napoli series of stops on serveral occasions. Both duty free shops and the Casino were opened between those ports that are all in the same country. Before arriving USA, the Prima will stop in about 10 countries including UK (a non-shengen country) Iceland and Canada. I am sure that the duty free shops will be opened everyday, as soon as the ship leave the port

I have never seen an egg with bright orange yolk like we had on that cruise. If the ship is in Europe all summer why would they get provisions from the US? Seems like a waste of transport. Tom On a couple of occasions, I took the behind the scene tour. I remember they said that "most of the supplies", including frozen products (meat) are shipped by containers from USA to the ships. But fresh products (fruits, vegetable, fish and others) are purchassed localy. NCL has an office in UK that also take care of ship supply in europe. When a ship is in Asia or Australia, it wouldn't make sense to send eggs and milk half way around the world when it is available locally. But I was told that for beef, in order to ensure the same quality acros the flieet, it is all bought in the US, then frozen and shipped to where ever it will be needed. BTW, I was also on that cruise Dover to Tampa. Azipod issue that forced the captain to skip Miami stop and we arrived Tampa a day early. Good memories from that cruise but I had a helluva rough ride prior to the cruise. Flew to France to spend time with friends in Normandie and then took the ferry between France and Portsmouth. The crossing was supposed to take under 6 hours. The channel was so rought that it took almost 10 hours. Lots of passengers were sick on the ferry. Also, I was doing Portsmouth to Dover by train. Was supposed to arrive Dover before noon. Planned with 1 connextion. Ended up with 4 connexions. Arrived Dover with less than 90 minutes to sailing. Adventure in travelling!! That wasn't you on the bridge with me just prior to the Captain's announcement? There was one guy that kept asking the bridge crew what time we were getting into Miami. They would not answer deferring the info to captain who was absent. I said there is no garmin on the windshield to tell them 🙂 I departed for my cabin which was Starboard a bit aft of center and before I got back to the cabin the captain was telling us we had a problem. Loved the long line in guest services after he said don't go there. I got the letter a few minutes after the announcement and immediately called to take advantage of a hotel room for one night. It was a beautiful room in the Marriott waterside 21st floor Suite with 2 balconies, one of bedroom and one off living area. It was a great memory for me too. I was able to have lunch with an Aunt and Uncle Sunday afternoon who live in the Tampa area.

But actually although you do see a "duty free" shop at the airports in the Schengen terminals it´s not a real duty free. Prices are a bit lower than in regular shops but the real duty free shops you will only find in the Non-Schengen terminals. On the Oasis class ships the duty free shop selling cigarettes, liquor and more are either closed or have other stuff (souvenir, clothing) for the Med cruises out of Barcelona (which are Schengen only). steamboats

Rare steamboats Posted July 31, 2022 #3274 Share Posted July 31, 2022 My DH is still working on his photos and article. But here´s a little treat for you. Don´t worry, he´s not saying anything really important. As for the beer fans... I´m sorry, I don´t have good news (but there´s some hope): Although the Luna Bar has 36 taps it´s not 36 kinds of beer but also premixed cocktails and more. The Soleil Bar has the same 36 taps using the same "tanks" for the taps. Those photos which have been identified as crew bar indeed show the new High Dive Crew Bar on deck 18 forward (on top of the Observation Lounge). steamboats 3
