Mike.S Posted March 19, 2021 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2021 https://travelweekly.co.uk/news/tour-operators/marella-cruises-looking-at-operating-uk-sailings-this-summer Looks as though Marella are considering UK sailing this summer, let's hope they do, they seem to be one of the few lines not to have annouced their intention to offer them. Marella were not going to have any ships operating from the UK this summer with fly cruises only but it would be logical to try some 'scenic' cruises if they could make the arrangements. Rare Brummijam Posted March 19, 2021 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2021 I would think that there could be a problem getting berths ( is that the correct term for parking a ship?) at Southampton with all of the cruise lines that are doing U.K. trips. Pensioncruiser Posted March 20, 2021 #7 Share Posted March 20, 2021 Just wondering if with all the UK sailing they will have to have a one way system 🤔🤭 Stay safe everyone. 1
Rare dronnygirl Posted March 20, 2021 #8 Share Posted March 20, 2021 Hopefully Marella will look at sailing from northern ports, could pick up a lot of trade as the other main cruise companies are sailing from Southampton and not everyone wants to trail down there. Liverpool or Newcastle would be great and perhaps one of the Scottish ports.
ormy Posted March 20, 2021 #9 Share Posted March 20, 2021 After listening to lunchtime news I don't think anybody will be going anywhere this summer. Stay safe all you lovely people, but keep the chat going please
Rare dronnygirl Posted March 21, 2021 #10 Share Posted March 21, 2021 Think the government were advising holidays abroad will be unlikely this summer, no reason why cruises around the UK can't go ahead for UK people. They might become a popular choice. Princess UK cruises go on sale this week so the other companies should follow soon. We're definitely interested, feels like a bit of normality is around the corner!
Miller Cruiser Posted March 21, 2021 #11 Share Posted March 21, 2021 (edited) Have finally decided to book a Princess cruise around the UK in October. Ten nights, balcony cabin on deck 15, includes drinks package, all tips and WiFi. All for just over£3300 for the two of us. Bargain, if it goes ahead. I know it's from Southampton, and it'll be a bit of a pain to get there from Yorkshire, but I can't wait. Have already started looking at YouTube videos of the ship. Keep safe everyone. I fully respect your optimistic outlook dronnygirl but realistically my feelings are that normality is a few years off yet, yes cruising may go ahead but not as we know it and do we want to be cruising round the UK in October. Obviously everyone is different and has different expectations from a cruise but for us it's no longer what we could accept or accept. Fully understand anyone wishing to book now. ormy Posted March 22, 2021 #13 Share Posted March 22, 2021 Not sure about round Britain in October - think you may need a good brolly and seasick pills, at least there should be no fight for a sunbed.
Rare dronnygirl Posted March 22, 2021 #14 Share Posted March 22, 2021 We are hoping for a cruise early September but will wait until we have heard some reviews before booking anything. We absolutely loved Shetland when we visited in 2018 and are hoping for a cruise that visits similar places. Seen some nice ones with Fred but will see what Marella have to offer. Cliffholl55 Posted March 22, 2021 #15 Share Posted March 22, 2021 Have looked at various cruises around uk but they all seem to be scenic cruises, not docking. Not sure that’s for us. PO aren’t docking anywhere.
Rare dronnygirl Posted March 22, 2021 #16 Share Posted March 22, 2021 FO are docking in Shetland, Orkney, Belfast and Falmouth with cruising days near to cliffs, wildlife etc. All depends on the prices.....

Rare dronnygirl Posted March 23, 2021 #19 Share Posted March 23, 2021 It's lovely to have holidays to look forward to even if they are later in the year. Today we all reflect what's happened over the last year but maybe tomorrow is when we start looking forward.

Simon Calder had a piece in the Independent a few days ago about Princess not allowing punters off the ship in UK ports unless they go on ship organised excursions. https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/po-cruises-southampton-diamond-princess-b1819564.html British citizens not being allowed ashore in their own country unescorted - that'll go down well with potential customers !!! Pensioncruiser Posted March 25, 2021 #24 Share Posted March 25, 2021 Just wondering what the insurance requirements would be for UK only POC. Understand you would still require cover for cruise costs but for any health requirements you are in British waters. 🤔
heatherbelle Posted March 26, 2021 #25 Share Posted March 26, 2021 We will still need insurance in case we had to transferred off the ship, whilst at sea.
