Venice bans cruise ships .............. again

So it appears that when we get back to cruising we will no longer be able to enjoy the scenic sail-in (or sail away) to the centre of Venice.

The alternative of the industrial port does not sound as appealing!

Do Regent ships come under the classification "large ships" under this ban? Probably yes 😕

 

(thought some might enjoy an alternative thread/topic to covid, vaccines, masks, cdc etc. etc. ............)

Navigator is under the 40,000 GRT so it could still sail down the Guideca Canal under the new limits.

Given the current situation:  Nice to be able to call-up a video made during our April, 2017 0730H glide-in to Venice aboard Explorer.  Silent transit, at about 2 knots.  No wake.  Ship continued past St. Marks Square and city proper to dock about four kilometers from city center.  That made excursions later that day easy.  

 

Magical.

I have to try Venice again at a better time of year.  I was last there during the summer of 2009 with my wife, sister and aunt.  My aunt had some difficulty keeping up with the tour guide while going up and down the steps on the bridges in one hundred degree heat.  I wonder if there is a way to request ability grouped tours so that those who can not move quickly could do the tour and maybe see a little less along with the others who are not up to a jog though the streets.

the article doesn't specify the tonnage though it mentioned that 96K tons was the previous ban.  Mariner is 48K tons and scheduled there this fall
