2020 Ships RIP

I will miss the Prinsendam the most (now wit Phoenix Riesen).

That was a huge loss to HAL IMO for it’s unique itineraries and sold before covid.

Sad to see all the S class ships go and 1/2 of the R class but let’s enjoy what’s left while they are there and hope that if the word was true in Gus A’s talk on itineraries, perhaps a new ship will be built or refurbished that is another small one.  Ok, everyone is allowed a dream 😉

I share your thinking.  There's likely going to be a shake-out in the cruise industry post-Covid.  Where will the chips fall?

I won't bet against HAL!  When one learns the Company's history, it has been a survivor for decades.

I see Seajets have added these two to its portfolio, it now includes the Ryndam, Ocean Princess and Majesty of the Oceans

I meant to add they also acquired both the Magellan and  Columbus in 2020 but sadly sold them for scrap

One thing to consider is that HAL is probably in a stronger financial position by disposing of these ships.  Covid no doubt  hastened their  inevitable departure from the fleet.

These ships were not discarded because they were big profit generators or were not in need of significant capital investment.  The opposite is probably why each was selected.

Given the unanticipated  length of the covid layup it would appear that HAL's decision to dispose of them was probably very fortuitous from a financial perspective.

Very true. Call us sentimental as we'll miss the Maasdam. We wanted to do at least one more cruise on her, but alas it was not meant to be. 😞

Life goes on.....

Our first cruise was on Carnival's first cruise ship...the Mardi Gras and it's been long gone......and now I see they are bringing that ship name back with a new Carnival Mardi Gras.....We cherish the memories (and do feel old, but blessed) but certainly enjoy the ships we have sailed on since the first one...and we love our Holland America Line ships!

Smooth sailing......

The brass of Carnival Corporation could not have foreseen the Covid pandemic or the cessation of cruising.  But, as cruising appears to be going to resume, the name of Mardi Gras for Carnival Cruise Lines newest ship signals the re-birth of the cruise industry.
