I miss cruising!   I really do..  There are many things I miss about cruising.. and here are a few..

I miss sail-away -     I miss watching the ship as it pulls away from the dock..

I miss formal night -    I miss the lobster dinners.. maybe next time I'll have two ..

I miss the dancing servers -     I miss clapping along with them as they swirl their napkins around and dance and have fun..

I miss turn-down service  -   I miss coming back to my cabin after dinner and finding my blanket has been turned, down and my ice bucket has ice..

I miss chocolates!   -   I miss the excitement on my face seeing a chocolate on top of the next days Fun Times..  it wasn't the best tasting.. but something magical made it special..

I miss port days - I miss waking up, going onto my balcony, and seeing we arrived in port..

I miss the hairy chest contests -  I miss watching my husband lose each time.. lol

I miss seeing my cabin Steward  -     I miss hearing them say "good morning Miss Maureen"    it always made me smile..

(pre - 2018)  I miss the little samples they would leave in the dish on the bathroom counter..

There's soooo much I miss about cruising!     What do you miss the most??

Hey I never got any chocolates lol.

I miss that excited feeling I get when I can see my ship from my Uber. That first sighting is amazing.

I miss stepping onto a ship I have never sailed on. No matter how many reviews I have read it always feels like a mystery!

I miss the sail away parties. Everyone is so carefree and happy. On some ships everyone cheers when they sound the horns and vacation officially begins.

I miss the beautiful dining rooms. Sitting down for our first dinner of the cruise with my family gives me warm fuzzy feelings.

I miss the variety of food choices that I don’t have to cook. I’m a semi picky eater so being able to order anything and everything and try it stops me from ordering the same thing over and over again.

I miss the balcony views. There is nothing like being out on the water.

I miss the beautiful port stops. The beaches in NJ do not compare.

I miss coming home and trying to figure out how soon I can cruise again lol.

I miss being out in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight. For some reason, it feels like I am free of stress and worry and can enjoy not being attached to anything but the beauty of the ocean and the wind on my face. I can so relate to that scene in Titanic, although I wouldn't go that far.  LOL.

I also miss seeing the beautiful blue water that looks like something out of a dream.  My favorite moment was while in St Thomas, gazing out at the water and land.  I miss exploring new places and meeting new people.  I miss learning about different cultures and seeing the world from a different perspective.

As far as the ships, I miss going to endless comedy shows and laughing without a care in the world. It's hard to feel stressed while you are laughing.  Maybe that's why I really like going to comedy shows.  I miss having my cabin cleaned, my food prepared for me, and choosing whatever entertainment I feel like going to see at the moment.  I miss the crew members and how hard they work to make sure everyone has an amazing time.

I miss getting silly in the Piano bar and singing at the top of my lungs the old classics.

I miss watching Karaoke and trying to work up enough nerve to participate

I miss having an Aperol Spritz (or two) before dinner

I miss having a Mimosa every morning

I miss lying in bed feeling the water rock me to sleep

JUST HAVING SOME FUN:

I miss having my gratuities removed.

I miss reserving a chair near the pool and then going to get an extra couple hours of sleep.

I miss wearing a baseball cap to dinner on formal night.

I miss reserving a whole row of seats at the shows.

I miss smoking on my balcony.

I miss having a cruise booked to look forward to. I did not realize how much having a cruise on the calendar helped me get through the day. No matter how bad work or life in general got, I had that countdown to console me. Sucky days were lessened by bringing up a nice video ship tour of my next cruise. Pre Covid, it was a rare chance that anything would derail my cruise and even if it did, we were just talking reschedule. Then cruise after cruise after cruise cancelled until nothing seems for sure anymore. Now I have a 270 day countdown to a cruise that even that far off seems like a maybe. I tried replacing cruises with something else, but frankly nothing else does it.

I miss seeing the ship's fantail as we get close to port. We had lunch at the Columbia Restaurant last week in Ybor City, very close to the Port of Tampa, and alas, no ship fantails in sight😒

I miss boarding the ship, going to our cabin right away and opening the

door to the balcony to breathe in the salt air.

     I miss the food.

     I miss the casinos.

I miss the chocolate covered strawberries.

I miss sitting out on our balcony while at sea and just taking in the vastness of the sea.

     I just miss it all!

I so agree with all of these!  We travel a fair distance from Saskatchewan Canada for our cruises so it is always an adventure.

I miss(ed) the planning most of all I think LOL as others have mentioned having something to look forward to, to learn about, to dream about helps a mental state so much.  We have our first of two booked for Feb 2022 and then Sept 2022.

But a few of the items that DH and I talk about that we miss:

  • Miss the fun of the casino - slot tournaments!
  • Drinks before dinner in the atrium bar
  • The ability to do it all or nothing at all and both are the right choices

I could go on but honestly I am getting misty thinking about it.  We have made lifelong friends on these cruises and the memories and experiences just cannot be beat.  I cant wait to read all the amazing trip reports once you all begin again in July!!  So anyone on the first cruises please overwhelm us with the details and pictures and stories!!!  Enjoy it for all of us who can't quite get there yet!!!

I miss the live music.

I miss being a little day drunk.

I miss turning off my phone and putting it in the safe.

I miss taking a nap whenever I want to.

I miss going to the Blue Iguana to get a breakfast burrito.

I miss getting a grilled cheese sandwich whenever I want one.

I miss the crowd and bartenders at the Alchemy Bar.

I miss the morning crowd at JavaBlue when I'm the designated retriever.

I miss the "ding, dong, ding" when the CD is making an announcement that I'm not going to pay any attention to.

What a great thread!  I’m in agreement with all these things.  It’s time for some fun!

in the spirit of the thread....

I miss towel animals.

I miss knowing that my phone won’t work or IF it does that it’s ok not to answer.

i miss exploring that first day.

I miss mini-golf that is nearly impossible to play due to wind. Lol

i miss trivia games

i miss the silly “solid gold plastic ship on a stick”

I miss whatever adventure each port brings.

I miss reading reviews here on Cruise Critic

i miss the certainty of KNOWING my cruise will happen

I miss dressing up for elegant night and feeling special

I miss sing alongs

I miss afternoons reading in a deck chair with water in every direction

Fingers crossed that I get to sail in September.

Where do I begin?  I miss:

Taking the last step from the gangway to the deck and hearing and seeing the Welcome Back

The excitement of going to our room and seeing it so clean, which will not happen again despite the best efforts of the steward, plus seeing the boring announcements on the TV and the luggage protector on the bed (yes we have arrived)

First meal on the lido and fun on the slides and pools

Meeting our servers--we are not YTD people

CHOCOLATE MELTING CAKE

CHOCOLATE MELTING CAKE (sorry but it merits 2 call outs)

Mornings out on deck as the sun is rising and the ship is so quiet

All the nightly entertainment (shows, live music, comedy, Dive in movies and dare I mention the casino)

Watching as we approach ports

Just looking out on the ocean

Seaday brunch where we can eat so leisurely and know we have nowhere to be and the whole day to lounge around

Returning to ship, no matter how nice a day on land, nothing beats coming back aboard, with maybe a quick stop on lido for a snack or a jump in the pool to cool off

Maybe the best part is feeling so carefree, probably what it felt like when we were young kids

I can honestly say I dont think a day goes by where I do not daydream about a past cruise memory
