Thanks for this information, but the news is absolutely nothing that is going to raise my blood pressure.  How many companies have some data from me that is
supposedly compromised have I learned in recent years?  What has been the negative result of such information?  Nothing.

One only needs to be super suspicious of any e-mails with addresses one does not recognize, ignore the robo calls that inform me that I am the winner of millions of dollars with a new 2021 Lincoln in the color of my choice, etc.

I won the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes last month but could not seem to find my credit card to cover the prize money processing fees.

My personal info has been compromised at least five times at when I was notified.  Lots of fun changing passwords and the phone text authentication protocols have kept me safe.

Wow, you get much better robo calls than I do.  I got one from the Federal Reserve saying they were sending the sheriff to arrest me.

The robo call that I most "enjoy" is the one that I frequently get from "Microsoft" when I am online using their Windows 10 product and then informed that my computer has become hacked and I need to contact "them" so that I will be able to use my computer and not loose all of my stored data because my Windows 10 system is not able to operate.

We are an apple family and I once got the Microsoft  “call”. Being bored I took it as my duty to protect the next person on the list.  So I played the old lady card and acted distressed (you know they think anyone over 45 is a dork)..  they wanted my credit card, I said, no, no, there is not time for that, come get cash.  He got so excited, he called his boss over to help me.  The boss was a bit smarter and hung up

That said I am immediately changing my password

We do think alike.  Keeping them on the line is saving someone else from being scammed.  I only engage once every few months between other things to do.

After being told of my system being hacked, I ask, "Which one.  I have five computers?"  My response when told "the one you are sitting in front of" is "that one is turned off.  Let me start it".  Starting always has issues that take quite a while as I continue thanking them for protecting my PC from hacking.  After another 15 minutes of naivety and following every step to allow them to take remote control of my PC, my phone seems to begin having  issues.  Of course, I ask them then to give me their phone number so I can call them back followed with my hearty laugh.  It has been quite awhile so perhaps I am now on their "do not call" list.

At least six potential victims can thank me for my prolonged  engagement with scammers.

LoLoL.  You all crack me up.  Dear Dad does this too, especially if he determines they are calling from overseas someplace on their dime.

I guess I prefer the easier approach of preventing the call from coming through in the first place.  And I DON'T look at the call list like Dear Dad does.  Out of sight out of mind.

for many years I have had my phone set so that it only rings when a number is in my contact list and has a ring tone associated with it. I sometimes pick up my phone and see more than 10 missed calls. It is an easy way to prevent the robo calls, but some of them have been set up such that they leave a voice mail now.

For my business phone, I hang up as soon as I determine that I am listening to a recording.

I interrupt script readers, irregardless of gender, with "You sound really lonely" or "You sound really cute".  They become very flustered and always disconnect.

I like the ones where they connect me with a specialist who can "help" me.   When they come on I answer, "Good afternoon.   Attorney General Dave Yost's office.   How many I help you?"   They do get a bit nervous at that one.

I will have to adopt this one but not sure it will work for those intentional calls.

You could answer with something like Office of the FBI Director.

Or say you're from the Federal Reserve.   They don't arrest people, but the scammers obviously don't know that as they tried to scare me with it.

Or, "This is an answering service.  Please hold and your call will be switched to the requested party."

🤣   Love it!  I have considered doing something like that by answering the phone with "This is the Montgomery County's Sheriff's Office.  How may I direct your call?"

Then, I think, no.  Maybe not a good idea.  Might I be accused of impersonating a police officer?
