Go Smile at Covid Waiver

So does anyone know for sure yet what this means as far as Carnival requiring vaccinations?  I've been looking through news stories about the court decision etc. and really can't reconcile how this will affect cruising.

We were thinking of taking advantage of one of the great deals we've seen for a September cruise, but will pass if they're going to backtrack and allow unvaccinated cruising (understanding that there will be up to 5% unvaccinated due to age or medical waivers) - I just don't want to take a chance of being on a cruise that's terminated early because of a breakout.

Excuse my ignorance: what are the mechanics of the smile and go technology? Does each guest stick their head in a cardboard box, smile and walk away or what? The details of how the temperature is taken, etc. are not expressed in detail. Is our photo taken each time we get off and back on the ship and infrared technology reads our body temperature? The lack of detail by Carnival is egregious here.

I was feeling the same way but realize we are around the unvaccinated everyday.  We will be fine.

I’m in the same boat, no pun intended

Nobody including Carnival knows. I doubt anything changes in the next 30 days, but September was an unknown.

Facial recognition and they already use it or something similar.

I think I prefer them doing whatever keeps me from having to line up daily for temperature checks.

Not ignorant at all! As far as I can determine what Carnival calls 'smile & go'  is really "facial recognition" software. But that's only my theory.

Where is that posted? I checked the Carnival website for a better read.

See? This is why I asked. I couldn't find anything either. Now we're learning you have to begin checking in to be told vaguely about this and Carnival still isn't telling us they are using sophisticated facial recognition programs to mark us for life 😱

By that time the rules may be different again.

I would hope so. The world's technology and how it impacts our daily lives is bad enough without us being traced constantly by Carnival while on what is supposed to be a vacation from the grind of daily life.

Carnival can sugar coat it all they want as Smile and Go but I'll be thinking Scowl and Leave would is more like it 😉

Carnival has been using facial recognition for a while and the casinos even longer.

I'm sure but I still would prefer to do business with a cruise line that is transparent.

Many companies use facial recognition for a variety of reasons including WalMart;!!

There’s probably more unvaccinated people walking around your Walmart and your grocery store than you even care to know. There’s like millions out here, living, with or without antibodies…

I'm not talking about the vax, just more big brotherism devices being used to control the masses for any reason. If Carnival's facial recognition software is so good why can't it tell the dining room host staff that we're the couple that don't want to be seated in a booth 🙂

The software is for the benefit of the business. Casinos might use to spot known cheats. Retail might use for known shop lifters. Police might use for criminals of all kinds  I assume you don't fit into one of those categories.

I think one way to thwart it might be to wear a covid mask all the time. 🙂

I understand why businesses and law enforcement may use the software. As I said before it may also be good for business if they were transparent about the use of it. I also don't care for cutesy systems with names like Smile and Go. I don't get seasick but such patronizing software names make me want to hurl.

Do you like having to produce a sail and sign card everytime you leave and board the ship? Facial recognition software can allow you to skip that point of contact, and bottleneck. If Carnival chooses.

I've never shown my card leaving a Carnival ship once since 1987 with the exception of final debark. Not a big deal. Has Carnival announced they are considering using the software as you describe?

You're saying you got off the ship at ports of call without having your sign and sail card scanned... since 1987 to present?  What ships?
