The Alaska Fish House (right next to the Lumber jack show)...there is also another restaurant just across from it can't remember the name but easy to find...both great food !!!

Please note the months that crab is caught in AK from this site - https://www.alaskafishingjobsnetwork.com/getting-a-job/alaska-fisheries-calendar-and-seasons/'    Note that crab is not caught in the summer but in Sept through November -

September

Sept. 1 – Sept. 15: King Crab
– Sept. 1 – Sept. 15: Mackerel
– Sept. 1 – Dec. 15: Pacific Cod “B” Season
– Sept. 1 – Nov. 15: Region 1 Sablefish (Blackcod)
– Sept. 1 – Nov. 20: Region 4 ATKA Mackeral Eastern “B” Season
– Sept. 1 – Nov. 15: Region 4 ATKA Mackeral Centerl “B” Season
– Sept. 1 – Nov. 15: Region 4 ATKA Mackeral Western “B” Season
– Sept. 1 – Oct. 15: Pacific Cod in the Gulf of Alaska

October

– Oct. 1 – Feb. 28: Area 1 Dungeness Crab Season
– Oct. 1 – Feb. 28: Area 1 Shrimp season
– Oct. 1 – Apr. 14: Area 1 Winter King Salmon Season via Trolling
– Oct. 15 – May 31: Area 4 Tanner Crab
Oct. 15 – May 15: Opilio in the Bering Sea
– Oct. 1 – Oct. 8: Pollock “D” season in the Gulf of Alaska
– Oct. 1 – Feb. 28: Area 1 Shrimp Season via Pots

November

Nov.1 – Nov. 13: Area 1 King Crab (red)

This means that the crab you eat in your AK restaurant is frozen just as the crab that you eat in any restaurant in the lower 48.  It is still delicious but even if you buy them in a restaurant in AK, they still have to be frozen.

Your reference is to an official government site so it is obviously correct.  I couldn't find a date on my post but it was not an official government site.   It is true that you can't catch the big ones such as kings and opilio in the summer although Dungeness crabs are certainly very tasty.  You can't go wrong eating any type of crab and slightly misquoting what Ashland said - its not what you eat but where you eat it.

BTW - this is the current menu price for King crab at Tracy - King Crab - 1LB $48.00 - subject to market changes.

When I think of the words "Ketchikan" and "seafood" I immediately think of Annabelles Keg and Chowder House.  They are located in downtown Ketchikan, and even feature three different types of seafood chowder.   Several years ago we were in Ketchikan during the open dungeness crab season and enjoyed an incredible bucket of fresh dunegeness.  Google is your friend.  Take a look at the menu.  Located downtown.

There is an all you can eat Dungeness crab fiest offered as an excursion in Ketchikan.  It is pricey but well worth it in my opinion.  We were there last year while in Alaska for a fishing trip.  Since there were no cruise ships it was mostly all locals.  The crab was great and they just kept bringing it.

HAL has a bus or fly-in excursion to George Inlet in Ketchikan.  Skip breakfast and don't fall for the the appetizers that ma reduce your capacity.

We did this in 2019 and it was great. They picked us up at the statute near the visitors center on the dock. It's a beautiful 20 min drive to the lodge. The days and time available are limited. Best Dungeness crab I ever tasted.
