cruiseej Posted September 2, 2021 #77 Share Posted September 2, 2021 This seems to report what we already knew: in the short term (the rest of this year), small ships below the size/weight limit will continue to use the existing cruise terminal in Venice (Marittima), while larger ships like the SS Shadow will be able to use the Fusina docks in the Marghera port on the mainland. Not mentioned in this article is that several cruise lines have moved cruises this year to other cities like Ravenna, Monfalcone and Trieste. And plans for 2022 and beyond are being discussed by a committee, with no clear answers yet.
eastwoodboy Posted September 4, 2021 #78 Share Posted September 4, 2021 For information here are the instructions for the new system at Venice. PRE-EMBARKATION: Due to operational reasons and as per a request from local authorities, all guests are required to undergo a pre-embarkation health screening and check-in at Venice’s Stazione Marittima (Pier 107). Guests enjoying Silversea’s Air & Sea package will be transported to Stazione Marittima, while all guests travelling independently are required to arrive at Stazione Marittima from 1:30pm. Following your health screening, you will be transported to Fusina Pier, which is approximately 25 minutes away.

Following your health screening, you will be transported to Fusina Pier Thanks for sharing that. It answers one of the questions that hadn't been clear when they secured the rights to dock at Fusina. And it makes sense: Fusina isn't a cruise port and probably doesn't have the space and facilities for managing check ins, health screening, luggage drop-off, etc. This makes it easy for anyone staying in Venice pre-cruise; anyone coming directly from the airport will lose a little time coming into Venice only to be bused out a little later -- but this is where you would have come to before the ban on ships at Marittima went into effect. We had one tornado pass us about 2 miles to our north and another pass us 2 miles to our south; we were told to seek shelter in a basement on and off for more than 3 hours the other night as 7 different tornados touched down. Parts of our township still have to boil their water because the water processing plants we impacted by the flooding. Fortunately, we, my parents and our friends and family scattered around the city and suburbs all came through with no problems. Thanks again for your kind thoughts! That sounds very frightening and so glad your family and friends are okay. Inland tornados are thankfully not something we here in Australia have to deal with and when I see them on the news they just seem like this terrifying monster.
