In addition to donuts, they also have these woooooonderful apple fritter/cinnamon ring kinda things. They're in that round standing case that's on the end of the ice cream counter. There's a slice of apple in each one and they're deep fried and rolled in cinnamon sugar. They're crescent shaped, and heavenly.

Now you're talking, these are wonderful. So are those little tiny dutch pancake thingys they make and cover with cinnamon and powdered sugar. Yummmm:)

To deal with the Cruise Police:

(a) Speak a different language. If you don't know one, fake it.

(b) Use sign language. If you don't know it... (same).

© Tell the a-h you are part of the Front Office staff and it's break time.

(d) Ignore them.

(e) Stock a supply of "Get Out Of Hell Free" cards (goohf.com) and give one to the person.

Got up at 5 AM to go through the Gatun Locks on our Panama Canal cruise last year and that was painful enough for a vacation.

5:00 A.M. ? I'd find it easier just to stay up all night and approach morning from the other direction. ;)

Ruth - We just about did that. I think we closed the lounge we were in the night before....something like 1 AM and then up again at 4:30 AM and out to the stern. Great place to watch passage through the Canal. Had a table and was able to get coffee and eventually breakfast without missing much of the locks. It was the whole reason we took that particular itinerary so it would have been kind of wierd to blow it off and stay in bed. Went back to the cabin around 9 AM and slept until after lunch. :o
