Where is that? I’ve not seen anything about free parking

Who did you book with?

I've just rechecked my app and the app screenshot at #17 only shows half the story.

Wansbrough is a great blogger. His speciality is 'as it happens'.

Did you see his day 1? Not exactly full of praise but...

See below for those arriving in their own car - copied from web

Also - It seems the cruise leaving tomorrow (Monday) possibly will not have as many on board as it did for the weekend.

Arriving at the Testing Site

  • Once you have been welcomed for testing, Sailors can make their way either by their own vehicle or by shuttle to the testing site at W4 Tipner Ln, Portsmouth PO2 8RD, UK (approximately 1 kilometer away from the Park and Ride).
  • Once you arrive at the testing site, please be sure to have your passport and proof of double vaccination with you. You must have your original, NHS-issued vaccine card with you in order to come aboard - or the live NHS app certificate on your phone.
  • Every Sailor will be tested for COVID-19 prior to getting on the ship. The rapid antigen test results take about 15-20 minutes, and tests are free of charge to all Sailors.

For Sailors arriving in their own car:

  • Once your group is welcomed to proceed to testing, drive from the Park and Ride to the testing site at W4 Tipner Ln, Portsmouth PO2 8RD, UK.
  • Park your car temporarily at the site, and go inside to the testing marquee.
  • Once inside, you’ll get your COVID-19 antigen test, and be asked to show proof of your COVID-19 vaccination
  • Testing results will take 15-20 minutes to be received. Once you’re cleared to sail (having received a negative result), you’ll be given your luggage tags, your Band (the wearable), and an additional band to indicate that you’ve met all of the health protocols
  • Once cleared from testing, you can proceed to the terminal to check-in and board the ship

Yes re #17 I only shot the part that said all sailors now need to go to the P&R 😊

Agree. So they are saying don't arrive before 1am at the park and ride. I get they might not have the means to board before 2, but it they started earlier, people would be ready to board earlier....rather than delaying sail away by 3 hours because they haven't the capacity. Also that park and ride has limited capacity and used by others.

Anyone know how many it sailed with on board?

What's the WiFi like?

The ship sailed with circa 1200 pax. WIFI/Internet was bad, other than that, the ship and crew are FANTASTIC!!! Booked another voyage while onboard and would go again in a heartbeat!

Is there any sort of deal/incentive/perks to booking while onboard?

Saw somewhere that the booking while onboard offer is $300 deposit required, gets you $300 obc for current cruise and $300 off the future voyage, something like that.

That’s it. Only valid for a standard balcony or higher though - not insides, ocean views or obstructed balconies.

You don’t have to decide on the voyage you want there and then - if you put down the deposit you then have a year or two to book IIRC. You can put down up to four deposits to use the offer up to four times.

I boarded last Monday (9th) and it could not have been better organised.

From the moment we arrived (self drive) to testing and parking all extremely quick and efficient.

We were on board just a few minutes after 2pm.

And to add - this was my first cruise - other than poor wifi (not that much of an issue me me) and lack of music from the in room entertainment - could not fault a thing - loved it!

However, not sure what it would be like with double the amount of people on board??

From this report,  I guess things went downhill = took over 2.5 hours to get on board - sat in Park and Ride way past embarkation time and then waiting in line for test, waited again for results (never did get the promised email) and then over to the port,  leave the car to drop the luggage, back in the car and around and about to the lineup to leave the car, CPS fiddling about with their devices which were all apparently running out of battery?? and then finally, through the terminal, on the shuttle and onto a lovely ship, great outdoor spaces, horrendous constant, unrelenting and sometimes overly loud music - everywhere - met dozens of people trying to find somewhere other than their cabin to get away from it!!!

Wristband which you need to get into your cabin didnt work, kept having to go find someone to let me in, eventually after 3 trips to Sailor Services, was issued a normal keycard.  Wifi horrendous especially since you need to use the app for everything including ordering breakfast, by day 2 saw lots of paper menus appearing.   The ship is interesting and colourful and I would say the best use of outdoor space from all the 12 others I have been on, and given she is built for short fun cruises from Miami, should be great at that , sailing in European waters not so much.

Maybe we got lucky - we were one of the first on board - after all the reports from the previous Friday I was dreading it but honestly it could not have been more efficient - I would say the most time we spent waiting / queueing was for 10-15 mins max to get test result!  Everything else flowed perfectly.

Never once noticed the overly loud music.

For sure app was frustrating, but it seemed to work better on my I pad.

Bands worked well for most transactions, and if they didnt the staff quickly and easily found you by your name - so no problem.

Loved the experience and the relaxed informal approach to everything.

Will be interesting to see how the ship functions with more people on board - we never waited for anything and always found comfortable seating wherever, whenever we went.

Our embarkation was OK too, 20 mins wait for result, then a longer wait at the port as we were early, but that's our choice, so not of VV making.

I had an awful first day with the WiFi and app. Several trips to guest services with zero joy, I ended up at the IT support desk, where I was pretty much advising their support guy! He wanted me to factory reset! Erm I dont think so! I got him to log in to his account on my phone and he could and worked fine (ruling out a problem with my phone). I then tried on his phone and I couldn't so the issue was my account and a mistake made at check in registration. I didnt get a working app until late morning on Day 2.

The first band I had seemed to be fine - until I lost it - though it turned up in the room, so wasn't really lost, but wasn't taking any chances. The next one simply didnt work. The next one literally fell apart and was finally given a card. That worked on our door, but nothing else. So that was changed and the same thing. I just gave up in the end. We were in a party of 6 and this was near replicated for 3 others, no not quite as bad. I've never had so much wasted time sorting things out. I just simply (as you'd said) gave my name for purchases in the end.)

For purchases, I was less than impressed. When presenting a band / card or name, you were never at any time told your charges and there was no receipt. You are expected to trust them and to be fair, that's how we played it until the 3rd night, where we found several dodgy charges and challenged them. In short, we had a couple of things put through twice and a couple of charges for a double spirit we never asked for or got. $22 for a gin and mixer is not what I'd expect to pay anywhere on a cruise ship.

I went with the flow on buying drinks and not having a "package" to pre-book. New territory for us and off course because you use it or lose it, you end up watching your account in case you are over budget or going to leave lots unspent (making that $ "loot" a bit of a waste.)

I did think the drinks (apart from the $5 Heineken) were expensive. I did read someone to expect to pay $6 for a wine and $8 for a cocktail. I have no idea where they were to be found. I think the cheapest I saw on my tab was $11 for a pina colada at the pool bar and $8 at one place for a rose wine, but generally that seemed to be $11. I was disappointed with the actual selection of drinks and where they were available. All a bit hit or miss. The cocktails were generally rocket fuel with 3 or more mixes in them - and with a price tag to go with it. At one meal my son had 2 $15 cocktails - which he didn't like either of them - and neither did I as I seemed to get stuck with all the meal bar tabs! lol I could only find one bar that served Pina Colada and nowhere that sold tequila sunrise, both of which I'd think are maybe the 2 most popular cocktails. (Well for me they are!)

We had an XL balcony, which was big enough and the bed really was nice and comfy, but thought the room was a bit plasticky - and especially thought that of the bathroom and shower. I've never had a shower in a 100% plastic cubicle before. It functioned fine enough, so all good on that from (which is the important bit), just was as far from "luxurious" as I can imagine..... OK bucket in a garden would be less I agree! lol)

Food wise was OK. I wouldn't praise it as "excellent" as many have, but it wasn't too bad. Wake and Italian I liked. Korean was very quirky but enjoyable, but the streak I had in the Mexican had more fat and gristle on it than meat! Galley was ok, but my usual omelette I wad once and left it. Were there using real eggs? It didn't taste like it!

So overall, too many negatives for us and there was never a chance I'd be making use of the onboard rebooking offers. I was very very noticeable, the people we spoke with that loved it, were first time cruisers. That's fine, but I do laugh at the suggestions "its the brand - we love it if you don't tough" type comments. If you haven't sailed on other lines, I don't think there is a place to put done experiences on other lines when this is the first time on a ship!

Liked there was lots of venue choices to eat. Liked the Dock area and nibbles there. Swimming pool I didn't think I saw anyone use.

But despite all the negatives, we made sure we had a good time and up until after 3am on the last 2 nights - including a win in the casino..... Tip.... You can use your onboard spend you don't use there!

Happy to answer any questions or be corrected if I've got things wrong anywhere. I met 2 lots of YTers on the ship, and their feelings were really on a par with my take on things..... and that's without mentioning the half eaten pizza found in the room on one of our party's rooms. (I still cant understand how that could happen...... as soon as they walked in, they saw in within seconds!)

I didn't know you could... I couldn't find anything in any of the shops I'd be interested in that wasn't massively marked up. Missus and sons GF got lucky with an ankle bracelet. I bought 5 huge Cadburys dairy milk bars, 3 huge Toblerones and 3 huge Milka bars but still ended with $40 that we converted just befor 3am...... Late joining the roulette table and had the final six spins and left with $120.... Bet that don't happen often! lol

From memory, there was 2 roulette wheels, 2 BJ tables and 1 (maybe 2) Craps tables (or whatever it's called!) I don't think I saw anyone playing on the BJ / poker table at any point - though I wasn't really paying attention. If I'm honest.

Hi there. Just one from me as we are talking bar tabs.

Do you know if one's Sailor's Loot has flexibility.

My booking came with $100 On Board Credit (OBC) and we utilised the Virgin Bar tab offer of 'pay $300 get $400. So we hit the ship with $500 in total.

What I'm trying to establish is do they discriminate between OBC and Bar tab credit please?

For example if I spend over $100 on logo'd items would they take the balance from my total or charge my credit card for that particular difference?

Cheers in advance.

I will try again..... i had written a long reply, hit send and it just vanished. Its happened several times now on CC. I should learn to copy the text before hitting submit reply - just in case!

In summary. The pot on your app, pools the money together, so you don't actually know what you have left in each. I expect you will be able to remember your shop purchases.... just keep a note of them.

I expect your $400 is now $425. Ours was.

Booze money can only be spent on booze and OBC on anything. The end bill will take booze purchases automatically from that pot. If you spent $110 in the shops and had $200 booze credit left.... You will get a $10 Credit card bill and lose the unspent $200

And even though you can buy bar credit and a discounted price, its only in $300 blocks. In our party of 6, we bought 5 lots. The youngest spent their entire credit on booze (ie $1050) and ended with bills to pay. No shop purchases. The eldest kids only bought one block. They spent all their OBC in the shop but had approx $150 left for booze which they didn't spend, so lost. We had two lots. We spent most of our OBC and used $40 in the casino in the final 15 mins or so. We still ended with a $10.80 credit.

So a different experience for all. This is the first time I've had to keep checking what I'm spending (and frankly didn't like it.) I'm used to AI or buying a drinks package. Far from "fair prices" I thought that apart from the beer, prices were high - particularly cocktails.

Hi Les, that's a great answer and completely covers my question. Just sorry you had to spend so much time re-typing.

At least we now know what to expect - fore armed is fore warned so as to speak. We are a 'linked ' party of four and frankly should have little problem scoring a 'flopper' on Richard Branson.

Thanks again for your response.

And was that a skinny version of Pina Colada from the pool deck? I was on a fruitless search for a Strawberry Daiquiri all cruise.  We asked the bar manager at Richard's Rooftop who said they hadn't enough supply of the strawberry mix from the UK but could do a Peach Daiquiri if we wanted one later!

So I wasn't the only one then! Yes, you are quite correct - it was a "skinny" version, so technically you could argue pina colada, Tequila sunrise and strawberry daiquiri - probably the 3 most popular cocktails were not available on Scarlet Lady....... But there were plenty of rocket fuel cocktails for $15, so all good! 😵

Absolutely. I always seek to find out as much info as possible before boarding.

Here's one you might not like. Like I found on MSC Virtuoso, Scarlet Lady has no public viewing gallery on any deck at the bow. I always video port arrivals and departures (usually timelapse) but couldnt do so on either. If you have "Rockstar" status, you can use the top dock, but whilst I managed to gain access to view during the voyage for a few minutes, it wasn't a good view with a camera.

Very disappointing for me on a personal level. I know it can be argued, there wasn't much to see on this trip arriving and departing from Pompey, but that wont be the only place this ship visits!

I find this interesting. Not because I have ever wanted to do this, but that this would be a niche request... that doesn't cost anything...and I'm curious how Virgin handled your request, if you made one?
