Ultimate Rome excursion by NCL

Cruise prices are high and even higher when  you are forced to take excursions with the ship.  We booked a land tour of Israel and Jordan with Gate 1 instead of a cruise.  We get to see WAY more than port stops and it is WAY cheaper.

We will likely skip cruising for a while and look a more land tours.

This new restriction from NCL is going to have some real effects.  I wonder how it will handle the "on your own" tours like "Florence on Your Own," "Pompeii on your own," etc.  We are scheduled for the 9/23 cruise out of Civitavecchia on Getaway but we have airline arrangements to arrive two days early and leave two days after the cruise.  What happens with that?

NCL hasn't done enough to both make passenger aware of this new mandate or on clear and what the ramifications are for those of us already booked, IMO.

Did this tour in june of 2019 and the bus was right at the port. We were escorted to the bus and the rest was taken care of! Skip the lines are a must if you want to visit several venues during your visit. If NCL excursions are the only way to visit now( and this too may change), why take the chance! Enjoy with your Mom, it is an amazing city!  Lunch is included and was fairly good but we did sneak off to a pizzeria while we had some free time , by the trevi  fountain .

I don't know how many people will cancel due to this, but we sure won't. We're scheduled to visit Italy next week on MSC and all of their excursions are cruise line-sponsored only. We've never had a problem doing their excursions and don't anticipate one now, either. My wife is a lot more concerned about Covid than I and I'm not sure she'd agree to anything else right now. So, IMHO, that's still a vacation. 😉

Having taken both NCL and MSC excursions, I would definitely choose MSC’s. Much more reasonably priced and not as much drive-by.

I am really torn on our upcoming port stop in Italy - it will cost us double to see less because we’ll be tied to a large bus group and trying to sight-see with 50 people who can’t/won’t/don’t follow instructions concerning times & thereby reduces my time to see/do things.
