I’m on the Glory right now and they aren’t even trying to get people to wash or sanitize their hands. I didn’t even see hand sanitizer stations available, but I’ll look again when I go for breakfast.

MSC and Celebrity are both doing a better job of trying to keep people healthy IMO, even if it’s only an illusion.

Yes, it's basically an illusion, as I noted in Post #38.    With CDC's guidance on surface contact in clear context, it amounts to virtue-signaling by the cruise lines.

It's not virtue signalling when it protects you from norovirus and other food borne illness.

I have personally had to treat pts with norovirus before with IV fluids. Not a big deal when dealing with a nursing home and like 20 people. But it's an issue when you have hundreds/thousands of people spraying from both ends explosively.

Right, and cruise lines have had standard norovirus sanitation protocols in place for decades.  Those protocols do indeed call for crew-served buffets and enhanced cleaning procedures during and after a noro outbreak on a ship (I've experienced this myself)...but they are not necessary, just suggested by CDC's fomite results, for a COVID situation.

When did you encounter "thousands" of cruise people with noro?

CDC's Vessel Sanitation Program shows that most norovirus outbreaks on cruises are quite limited in number:

https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/surv/gilist.htm

Also, CDC's discussion of norovirus aboard cruise ships is notably muted:  https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/pub/norovirus/norovirus.htm

I didn't encounter hundreds/thousands of cases. I am not a cruise ship doctor (yet). I am based in the US. But it can happen with cruise ships. I would prefer served buffets d/t people grabbing food with their bare hands and putting it back. Gross.

This. Pre-covid, we've always mandated everyone go and wash up after settting their food on the table from the buffett. There are plenty of hand washing stations that make it fast and convenient. I also agree with the health experts that say getting COVID from contacting surfaces is extremely rare. It's contracted via the air you breathe.

At least onboard Panorama yes, can’t tell you about all other ships.

Fred, good to see you posting again 👍. Buffets on Carnival ships as of this posting are self-serving. Exception, the horrid bacon police.

Ok big tip here guys, I had Bacon every day for brunch, that’s where they hid the bacon. LoL

Thanks BasicSailor, it’s good to be back as I started to cruise again.
