clover18 Posted December 19, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2021 News Flash: Odyssey is heading back to Fort Lauderdale to deliver someone with a medical issue. So we will have to dock and take the person off then return and head south. Captain telling us we still have plenty of time to make it to Curaçao by Wednesday. smokeybandit Posted December 19, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 19, 2021 (edited) I was on a medical diversion cruise in Feb 2020. That combined with strong headwinds got us back home 4 hours late. Luckily we had a later flight but we still barely made it. Obviously many others weren't as lucky Edited December 19, 2021 by smokeybandit

We docked about then. I was surprised to have been changed to 930 without any notice and we were told too late to cancel. They should be obligated to email or leave a message for you. This was done nothing to do with the evacuation.

Retired LEO Posted December 20, 2021 #14 Share Posted December 20, 2021 This is not at all unusual. We had 4 medical evacs last week on the Harmony. One while docked in Cozumel and three while out at sea.

Looked to be about 8-10 people total. of note, the 3 porters were wearing full hazmat outfits head to toe, with industrial gas masks that covered the entire face. The suitcases were completely wrapped tight with clear plastic wrap. Obviously a communicable disease type of evac. Overall, I must say, watching all this, I do feel more comfortable with Royal, and their protocols for Covid, and Med evac policies and procedures. They truly take this seriously and as a passenger this week, I feel safe and pleased with Royal.

BND Posted December 20, 2021 #20 Share Posted December 20, 2021 Our Nov 28 HOTS had an evacuation to Key West. It happens quite often. In our case, we got close and they evacuated by boat. It happened on Dec 4. We were in Captain's Corner and Jeffrey (Arpin) announced before it started that the Captain would have to leave early to be on the bridge for the evac of a guest. They would do well to only allow vax guests.
clover18 Posted December 20, 2021 Author #22 Share Posted December 20, 2021 I think the situation on board here is something future cruisers with health conditions should consider seriously before booking. This ship, for all the money that was put into building it, does not have a helicopter evacuation/landing pad. Imagine the money that they spent to go back to Fort Lauderdale, instead of being able to land a helo on our ship to evacuate the patient. We have heard that the patient has died But that has not been confirmed by Royal. having been on the ship now for about three days, we are completely under-impressed by virtually everything about it. We are doing a back to back, next week, and are actually sorry that we are not moving to a different ship. We’re glad to be on vacation, but there are so many things about this vessel that could use tremendous improvement. But that’s for another thread.

The sailboat was off the starboard bow, then motored across the starboard bow between us and the pier. You can see him in the leftof this picture. Golfgalag Posted December 21, 2021 #24 Share Posted December 21, 2021 (edited) We were on the sailing last week and my advice is to stay out of the Casino. From the last three sailings all Covid cases from the casino. The precautions at all. No one had mask. No one cleaning the machines.
