This just caught my eye:

Royal Caribbean Pauses Bookings for Cruises Departing Through Mid-January (cruisecritic.com)

I like that they are limiting capacity as my daughter and I are booked on the Jan 6 Mariner of the Seas cruise.

Wouldn’t most these cruises already be booked up to capacity with that only being 2weeks worth of cruise.
just sayin.   It’s useless.  Just a media blitz.

I think it's a little late. We are booked on the January 3rd Freedom cruise, and there weren't many rooms available before they closed bookings. We know they have been sailing with up to 100% capacity on ships over the holiday, I was already worried that the capacity was too high.

No, they are not at capacity. Bookings fall off sharply after the holidays (per crew on liberty thanksgiving). They had bookings open so they could entice last minute folks and/or replace people that cancel…. But now closed that off.

So for transparency, Royal should release what percent those sailings are booked at so that everyone knows the facts before deciding to go or not?

I agree with you.  I think that is very important to know, especially with the new variant running amok.  I don't think they'll do it though.

We are already highly considering postponing our Jan 3rd Freedom cruise. Knowing the ship was at 50 or 60% capacity vs 85 or higher would certainly help.

Yes it would be great to know.  On my Freedom 3-night Sept cruise there were only about 1,800 passengers.  It was a very nice cruise and felt like I had the whole ship to myself.

Ships are only running at 70-80%, but that doesn't include rooms set aside for crew and passenger quarantine use.

Not concerned about the bookings after the holidays.    There’s very little bookings this close to departure as most people have already booked these cruises.

I hope that is true. I've seen too many posts about how full ships have been. I know Jan 3rd is post holiday, so I hope that capacity is a little lower.

In the past few hours, many on my January 2 harmony cruise have received notification that their St.  Thomas excursions are canceled

We were notified this morning that our St. Thomas excursion on the Caribbean Princess on January 9 was canceled.

The problem will not be gone in january, Omikron will be with us for then ext couple of months so let's see.

In the scheme of things, Omicron compared to other Covid strains, is a milder variant.  Let's hope the variant leaves us like it did in South Africa, where the peak happened and it's on its way out.

As a TA many many cancellations over the new mask policy…..facts…no agreement or disagreement with the policy, add no smoking now, in casino and well the RC refund machine is going into overdrive.

Stay Safe All

So with a halt in bookings coupled with cancellations since the new protocols were announced may result in a lower passenger percentage.  Maybe through January.  We sail in mid-January.

Wonder if our St. Thomas stop on our Jan. 16, 2022 cruise will be cancelled.

I hope Omicron will peak quickly like it did in South Africa.

I've read that Omicron is milder.  I also hope it peaks quickly and then subsides.
