Cruise Capacity Being Limited for Cruises through Mid-January 2022

I hope all of your excursions will work out and take place. These days they get cancelled very often. 

If I were you, I would avoid purchasing excursions in advance. You never know whether you will be able to make it or not

It is my understanding that the islands are getting real time Covid counts from the cruise ships.  

 

I have not heard of any island doing a wholesale lockdown on its port (except ones who haven't reopened at all yet, like Cayman).  It's been on a ship by ship basis.  I'm casting a bit of a side eye at RCI for not informing the passengers of the Covid count on Allure.

”We skipped St. Thomas today and were told we’re skipping St. Kitt’s as well.  Disappointed,  DW’s sister lives in Charlotte Amalie.  We were told due to spike in cases “everywhere”.  But other ships scheduled today were in port.  Asked how many cases Covid on board, but were told it’s confidential information.  Not impressed or happy with that answer.  Also asked about Captain’s Corner and were told they’re not sure they will have.   Otherwise, have been enjoying time on ship.  Everyone has to where masks inside.  Overall, not bad”

So now Royal is not being forthcoming with how many cases are on board? Ridiculous! I'm making my to do list as I check the boards for new info... what I have to cancel for our Jan 3rd Freedom cruise

This. 👆 For those who feel it’s too late to lower capacity on early January sailings. Between the freeze on new bookings and many cancellations, they should be close to the 50% level as per Royal’s strategy for early January sailings.

We are booked for January 14 on the Navigator in LA. They are still accepting bookings which means 

A: The ship has very low occupancy 

B: They are hoping to fill as best they can. 

Just because they have limited rooms available, I wonder if they have blocked out other rooms. 

Hard to speculate.

That's what I'm thinking.  I'm seeing cancellations on my roll calls on Cruise Critic and Facebook.

I am curious (ignorant...) if other cruise lines are announcing specific numbers on individual cruises or just that some  crew and passengers and contracted COVID???

No other cruise lines that I know of have specifically made daily announcements of covid count for crew and passengers.

Carnival simply says there "is a small number of people"

Ncl has only said something went their problems hit social media, otherwise people dont really know.

Viking was informing during summer months but havent heard lately.

Not sure that Hal says anything either.

 

Maybe royal is changing their strategy of transparency.

Plus the % that actually have symptoms is much lower and very mild for just about everyone that is vaccinated.  Even better for those boosted.

On Celebrity Edge earlier this month, the Captain did a daily Health update.  He advised us when a crew member tested positive, and then again when a passenger was positive later in the cruise.

maybe time to fix it at 50% . i was on oasis in october and NCL 1 week later, maskless, and no cases were heard of.  and it was a great experience on half capacity too. win win ! and yes you can charge me a bit more for the extra capacity
