Edge announcement 2 crew positive

Getting off the ship at 7:25am was easy, walked right through.

NOBODY knew anything about the Covid Testing facility and there's no signage either. One lady said go left - nothing, another person says go right to the end of the terminal (where we entered at boarding day) - Bingo!

NOTHING was set up at 7:40am not even their computers were running. More busy with their chewing gum and personal chit chat. Despite online registration everything had to be typed in manually again and the associate managed to write the name wrong TWICE despite having a passport in front of her. Email not written on the form so no way to verify, that'll probably be wrong as well and I have to chase it (hotline currently closed). What a circus!

Made it to the airport at 8:10 with ample time to spare. This was a joke Celebrity! Thank god the cruise was comped through BCC.

Good luck and safe travels everyone who is booked with these clowns under current sailing conditions.

I'm on the Edge sailing January 30 three weeks today.  On the fence about canceling not because of covid but seems Celebrity can't get their act together. I'll make my decision in a couple of weeks.

Just disembarked the Edge. Had a fantastic time. Felt safe the entire cruise. The crew, food and stateroom were great. I would have no problem sailing with them again, under these conditions.

No, they were released after a day following their negative test. I wonder who will reimburse them for their missed days, especially as people were apparently moved from their original cabin to a porthole cabin. So much for "I'm booking at least a balcony so if it hits the fan I have some fresh air".

Which is what also lead me to the decision that I'd never under any circumstances report to medical no matter how I feel (unless it's super serious).

I am sure you aren't the only one who feels this way. Makes you wonder how many people are really positive on these ships.

Imagine if one was in the Iconic Suite and they hauled you out of there to an inside cabin on deck 3?  I would def think twice about letting them know.  Stay right inside that suite and eat every meal, be on the balcony every time a meal was delivered or room service came.

And let things spread through the ventilation system.

I have not doubt some will run around sick with so many people that care only about themselves these days.

No, Florida government at the highest level has welcomed every covid denier, anti vaxxer, untested tourist and resident since day 1, Id bet if it wasn't for getting on a flight, the Sunshine State wouldn't care if anyone got off a ship positve and spent a week visiting every tourist attraction here. The private companies have been the adults in the room here, or there would be no regulations.

Not really sure what your point is here?  Every state has anti vaxxers, deniers and untested both residents and visitors.  I am not aware of any US state that requires one to be tested before entering.  I am not defending nor bashing Florida, or any other state for that matter.  How to handle covid locally is IMHO an individual state government decision.

I keep hearing about specific 'quarantine' cabins with 'special' ventilation systems re COVID.  I was under the impression that as part of the return to sailing, the ventilation for the entire ship had to be refitted for H13 HEPA filters.  Turns out that not all lines did this, and Royal rejected the AtmosAir solution and is installing only MERV 13 filters - the pricey kind I get at Home Depot and use at home!

Can anyone confirm that there really are sections of the ship with H13 filters?  Or does it really matter what cabins are being used for quarantine?  I don't even know how they manage positive/negative pressure in a typical cabin, much less one used for quarantine.  Would be nice if we had an engineer familiar with what they've done to explain.

Our covid case numbers have dropped significantly in the past week so that's one positive sign.

That is only because they changed the testing eligibility to basically essential workers only.  Actual cases are much higher then reported

@canderson to follow up your question,  can anybody point me to a study that says that COVID virus can spread through the HVAC system on the cruise ships sailing right now?  Why even bring this up?  Just to worry people on board even more for no good reason?  The virus spreads in respiratory droplets indoors in extended close(r) contact situations.

You'll have to ask the CDC and CLIA how that decision was made as part of the CSO.  I suspect that early on, they were drawing comparisons to prior respiratory disease vectors aboard ship, and figured 'more is better'.

FYI: Tomorrows Edge sailing (9 JAN) has 1174 pax booked compared to 1192 on this trip.

According to a Facebook post, a current passenger aboard the Edge confirmed 900 passengers, as there were alot of last minute cancellations

Good that you say "booked" - I am pretty sure, there will be less once the ship sails away.

Diamond Princess objectively proved back in March 2020 that covid can spread through the ventilation system.

And covid is spread through aerosols, the droplet nonsense was debunked ages ago. See: https://www.wired.com/story/the-teeny-tiny-scientific-screwup-that-helped-covid-kill/

For anyone that thinks that they can stay in their cabin with symptoms I doubt that would work.

We were on the Apex in November. Our cabin steward would not enter our room if we were in. We asked if we could stay on our balcony while he cleaned. Answer was NO.

We had a fabulous cruise on our sunset veranda and the entire ship.

To be fair, perhaps debunked decades ago, but the results were not recognized for what they were until 2020.

To others:  Excellent article - definitely worth a read.  Shows how hard it can be to change conventional scientific thinking even in the face of real data that contradicts it.

Wish all the cruise lines had gone the AtmosAir route for airborne bug control, but you have to ask why a company like NCL that is using it is faring no better, or even worse, with what should be a far more effective system than Celebrity seems to be doing with a lesser system.

Regent Seven Seas, Oceania, NCL and Virgin Voyages all went AtmosAir.  NCL topped their system off with the addition of H13 HEPA or M13 filters.

Windstar went to HEPA (probably HEPA 13) + UV-C irradiation.

Silversea, Celebrity, Royal Caribbean all employ the less expensive (and arguably less effective) MERV 13 filters that you can buy at Home Depot.

If you make that must be vaccinated, tested or quarantine  there is one.  Hawaii.

Largely because the filtration systems on the ship do not matter that much.  They help if they are recycling inside air, then it needs to run through a filter.  Which they might do to save energy costs heating and air conditioning. If the ship is pulling air direct from the outside then you can have all of the filters in the world.

But in most cases it really comes down to distance between people, the number of people in a volume of space inside, the air flow patterns, and how fast the air in that space is exchanged.

I expect the primary reason why those infected cannot stay in their original rooms are because cabin air flow on a ship enters each room, which has a very slight positive pressure then exists to the hallway (if balcony doors are shut.   As such they would want all positive people in the same section of the ship, with no other crew or passenger traffic, going through that hallway.

@deejayfore  Good article thanks.  I should have said aerosols in my previous post.  That is what I meant.  Not sure why I used the droplet term.

I for one am glad your cruise is over and you are safely headed home. I have read your many posts and you are clearly very upset with Celebrity. I presume you will be patronizing a different cruise line in the future, which would please me to no end. Good luck.

Thanks, yes indeed. I have three more AQC comp sailings booked/paid with them which no doubt need modifications again (first one already got cancelled today). Not intending to book any more for the time being despite the rather attractive casino offers.

You might find those comp'ed sailings uncomp'ed and your paid ones involuntarily refunded if and when Celebrity traces your identity back to this quote of yours earlier in this thread:

"Which is what also lead me to the decision that I'd never under any circumstances report to medical no matter how I feel (unless it's super serious)."

It shouldnt take much detective work.
