You got sick with COVID a day after disembarking? Like, you know for sure it was COVID because you got tested? Or it was just flu or cold-like symptoms and you're not sure whether or not it was COVID-19? I am asking because I am booked on Princess for a March cruise and now I'm kinda scared to go; thinking of cancelling.  Trying to ascertain the risk. I am fully vaccinated and boosted but still thinking I'm not willing to take even  the smallest risk of getting sick AND possibly being quarantined.

COVID-19. My husband tested positive three days after the cruise. I tested positive two days later. My other family members (in-laws & 2 sons) never got sick and never tested positive. They ate breakfast and dinner with us everyday. We all are (and were at the time) fully vaccinated & boosted! It is possible we were exposed before the cruise even though we got sick right after. Who knows??? Returned to work and learned several coworkers were sick with COVID at the same time. Some hadn’t travelled at all!

Also, the trip insurance doesn't kick in until a positive Covid diagnosis comes through. So if your travel plans change and you need the expense covered, don't forget to make a quick stop by Uber or that rental car for a Covid test. On the weekend, no less.

I was told by my agent that for my insurance to kick in, it requires that a doctor verifies the positive test result, not just taking a test, proctored or otherwise.

I had been told the same. It wasn't the only reason but was definitely the biggest reason  we got tested while on board. We needed the test from the medical center to trigger the insurance as we knew we wouldn't be hopping on a flight with one of us running a fever and actively sick.

well I guess if I need a doctors note, I can get the test at the medical, then get escorted off, like you did, but then just walk off with the people who drove to the terminal, and go get my rental.  Rental place is about a 4 block walk from the terminal (wearing an N95 mask of course).

This post has been very helpful in learning what to do and not to do, based on how NCL handles the situation.  I am more than happy to follow the protocols as long as I feel like NCL knows what they are doing.  Once it starts feeling like "***** hitting the fan," then I am prepared to take care of myself and travelling partners.

A claim for cancellation prior to departure requires a doctor's confirmation of diagnosis and orders not to travel. That is, after all, the basis for the claim.

When you check with your insurance, ask them if you are allowed to drive yourself home under those terms. It would be a shame to invalidate your claim for reimbursement of travel expenses because you traveled against doctor’s orders.

The cruise line may be willing to allow that, but they are not responsible for advising you in regard to your insurance.

Were you on Regal Princess over Christmas?  We were   I had not heard of any cases.  I was impressed with how almost all passengers wore their masks!
