Fresh fish at Seafood Shack

I tried to order toward the end of my last cruise and was told they were not available. Not sure if that means they sold out or went bad before everything they onloaded was sold, but based on the clientele on the dirt-cheap COVID-era cruise I suspect the latter.

Oysters can keep 1-2 weeks in refrigeration, from time of harvest.

Same here, I always ask as I did even before covid came along. I think perhaps they no longer stock them.

In September ‘21 (Panorama) I had the fried shrimp.  I was getting full and still had many shrimp left. So, as I’ve been known to do, I took the breading off the shrimp. It looked like they had soaked the pieces in Clorox! Unnaturally WHITE.  And of course tasteless — close your eyes  & guess what you’re eating kinda thing here —(without the breading). 
 

I get they “bleach” the vein — Or whatever the process is called. The vein thing was still attached on each white shrimp. I know this isn’t close to the worst thing that Carnival could do to a meal. But, I decided then that I won’t order it again.

I should have but I'm much more of a just never go back type of guy, lol. We were just on the boat and I wanted to keep everything light with my son. We had a good laugh and chalked it up to experience. I'll not order it again unless I see someone else do so and it looks good, ha.

Yep. Pretty much year round unless a storm or oil spill cuts production. But it's the same oyster variety all along the Gulf and East Coast.

I used to really enjoy the shack but on our last cruise (Magic- November) it was GROSS. I tried a lobster roll and it had barely any meat and just tasted off. I thought maybe it was an anomaly so tried the clam strips another day and they were these weird mushy balls!! Just plain gross. I don’t know if it’s a change of vendors and products fleetwide or just a poorly run seafood shack on that ship but I wouldn’t buy from them again.

It's the only really BAD meal we've had in 12 carnival cruises, but enough to turn use off on the seafood shack.

We really love Guys burgers, the tacos venue, Pig and Anchor, Jiji's, the pizza, the deli, the steakhouse, and the buffet. We rarely ever eat in the MDR because it just takes too long to get through dinner. 

Oh, and the shakes at the Shake Shack are soooo good.

Lots of great food options with carnival!

Have to agree on the Seafood Shack. Ordered fish & chips there on the Freedom. Worst I have ever eaten (or should I say not eaten!). Fish was undercooked, batter still runny underneath, chips dry and tasteless and this was after waiting over 15 mins after I ordered. Threw it away.

 

Last year I decided to try a lobster roll on the Breeze. It was not bad, but certainly not worth the $14 charge, even if it was from my OBC.

 

There won't be a 3rd time!

More than 99% of the food on board is sourced in the United States- billions of dollars worth and it all has to be USDA approved. That said, The Seafood Shack is really hit and miss in what you get. It's pricey in comparison to other food options on the ship and sometimes the quality/portion just isn't there. See below two examples of the Lobster Roll, lol. First one on the Breeze in August and the last two shots on the Vista a week ago. It's the casino of food, lol.
