It’s time.  It’s going FLL to via the Panama Canal, SFO then Vancouver and on to Portland for dry dock.  This was shown on the dry dock schedule since last year.

Yes, but just routine or makeovers?

Good day in St. Thomas today except for a few quick showers.  It felt like we were a mother ship with a small child on both sides.  We were joined behind Azamara Quest, and in front of its sister ship Oceania Insignia that have passenger capacity at just over 20% of the Caribbean P.

3 couples are getting married on the ship this week.  We witnessed one on Tuesday.  Based on their apparent age, I would hazard it was not the first for either person.

For this week there are 527 Platinum captain circle members and 343 elite members.  The top 3 have 1,338, 1,916 and 2,038 nights.

Tonight is 2nd formal night.  My daughter heard it's lobster night.  Never had lobster on Princess but from other lines they tend to be pretty small.  Might order 2 but I don't want to deprive anyone on the second seating.  Maybe 2 shrimp cocktails instead.

Cruiseline algorithms can tell to within 5% how much of every product will be consumed on a cruise.

For those curious about wave heights, some US NOAA buoys report wave heights, along with other data, via the US Coast Guard app. Seems more likely to have wave data near  the mainland or possessions.  But give it a try.  Screenshot from a Puerto Rico buoy shows wave heights.  Other buoys have more limited data.

The ship is nearing 20 years old - likely just routine maintenance.  Still has many new or unique features since the last drydock.

When we had to switch cruises due to the drydock our PVP told us it was routine maintenance with an emphasis on engine work.

Lots of maintenance needs to be done.

Many issues need to be addressed, according to the crew.  Definitely needs engine work too.

We LOVED the updated aft area on deck 16 or 17 (lost track of how many stairs we climbed to get there).

There are 4 clamshells on what I think was 17 and some very comfortable tables and sofas. Also loungers on 16 .

I'm not aware of seating areas like that on any other Princess ships.

@Waynetor

We were wondering about music and dance venues on the Caribbean Princess.  Any dance area in Crooners?  Any other comments?

Fusion Lounge- great dance floor  pre-recorded ballroom most nites starting at 5p

Explorer decent floor if not too crowded- liuve band venue

Wheelhouse- OK floor but they put furniture on it

Live music sometimes too loud

No dance area at Crooner’s bar.

House band sometimes on 5 Piazza,

very loud, mostly jazz…horns. There is a small dance floor, as usual.

Has anyone heard or asked why the Caribbean Princess is heading for dry dock on March 19th?  Leaving Florida heading to the west coast for .  There's nothing online.

I talked to a few different crew members last month. I was told that the dry dock (2 weeks) was going to entail both engine work and interior work (i.e. carpeting), as well. Staff was going to take on a lot of work themselves, in addition to keeping everyone fed while on board.

In response to Norwegian Cruiser 73’s comment about smoking in the casino - I saw the same sign but there is smoking allowed on the starboard side of the casino. I had to move an ashtray from a video poker machine I played and there were people smoking around me. I wish Princess would either ban smoking in the casino or follow NCL’s idea of having an enclosed area just for smokers. I was on the Joy last month and it was great to not have to smell the stench of cigarette smoke.

That is exactly what I was told by different crewmembers today.

I didn't think it was too bad this evening.  Maybe due to the late schedule in Grand Turk so not as many folks in the casino in general.

In January, Club Fusion had an iPad-like thing near the dj booth where you could choose the songs playing there. Modern day jukebox! We had the whole place to ourselves so we picked a lineup of songs we like and danced for probably a half hour. So fun.
