Easiest way to get from cruise port to the Royal Mile in Edinburgh?

I think there's a bus that goes from the port but am wondering where public transit would take us ... and how to get to the Royal Mile simply, quickly and without spending a fortune.

I think you have to be more specific as there is more than one port used for Edinburg.

On our (HAL?) cruise, the cruiseline ran a shuttle into town. I cannot remember where it dropped us off; we could walk to the castle.

It should be reasonably accurate. The web article was dated 2019 so probably a small increase in rates. If you need a more accurate estimate, here's a link to the relevent page on Edinburgh council's website, which notes fares were last increased in 12/21

I was assuming this bus was going to be operating this upcoming cruise season:

Does anyone know if that will happen?  If so, is that a good way to go?
