wilsonz6 Posted February 12, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 12, 2022 Just wondering, We have been to Alaska a few times now on Radiance but have not tried using VOOM. Just wondering of peoples experiences and thoughts on how the service is and the value on Radiance. I understand it will not be "as good" as in the Caribbean but does it even work well enough to justify cost? Thank you in advance.
cruiseguy1016 Posted February 12, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 12, 2022 I was very disappointed with the boom when we crossed Alaska a few years ago. It worked okay but it drop out a few times and when it was working, it was sloooow. It's not RCI's fault however. My understanding is the satellites don't reach that far north. njkruzer Posted February 12, 2022 #3 Share Posted February 12, 2022 I used it for work on Radiance circumnavigation of Australia in 2020. Don't remember too many problems. I seem to recall it dropping off some evenings around 10:30 or 11. Have a feeling it may have been a planned reset as the crew knew about it. That may be true for Ovation, whose O3B coverage is limited at Alaska latitudes, but Radiance has old school geo sync sat internet which usually doesn't drop off in performance that much - it's just crappy to start with (compared to O3B).
