I recall when Nespresso released them there were three different flavors. With this I then suspect you work them just like the other offerings. There are Nespresso pods that have flavorings, but I don't recall any that have some sort of cream flavoring, but regardless, they work just the same. BigBee51 Posted August 22, 2022 #52 Share Posted August 22, 2022 Thanks for the response. I remember the pods were in Italian so I was guessing at what crema meant.
Rare OneSixtyToOne Posted August 22, 2022 #53 Share Posted August 22, 2022 I have a tip for those who dislike coffee pods. For extra counter space have the coffee machine removed. The staff will be more than happy to oblige.

Here is the link to them: https://www.nespresso.com/es/en/barista-creations-cafe-con-leche The pods in this link do not have cream in them. They are coffees that go well with milk. That's what they were created for - but they are just coffee. Lighter perhaps? My sister loves them because she always puts steamed milk in hers. You can also contact the World Cruise Desk or "Tellus" pre-cruise requesting it be removed, so the Cabin Steward removes it while making up the cabins.

On 10 Ocean cruises we've never seen any cream pods. Just non-flavored regular caf and decaf coffee pods. 9 of the cruises (including the one we just got off of) had decaff #10 pods and regular #4 pods (the exception had regular #6 pods). We like strong coffee (#8 and above) so we always bring several sleeves of Nespresso pods with us (and none make it home!). We don't use cream, but I would assume you'd have to bring your own pods or ask room service for cream. We don't do flavored coffee, but again you could bring your own flavored Nespresso pods. This seems like a good spot to ask and confirm that the machines Viking have in their cabins are still the original machines, using the original pods and not the newer Vertuo machines? As you've recently sailed. 🙂

Twitchly Posted August 25, 2022 #59 Share Posted August 25, 2022 In Italian, doesn’t “crema” refer to the foam on the coffee? Just guessing here.

Ryan208 Posted August 25 #61 Share Posted August 25 Resurrecting an old thread here, but for those of us who don’t drink coffee (yes, there are a few of us😁) does Viking provide tea pods for the Nespresso machines?

I don’t believe so, however you can ask your room steward for a kettle and some tea bags. Extra tea bags can be obtained from the World Cafe tea/coffee station

Rare LindaS272 Posted August 25 #64 Share Posted August 25 And of course if you like milk with your tea, your steward will give you a small pitcher to keep in your fridge and will replace it regularly.
Planning to cruise Posted August 25 #65 Share Posted August 25 From the UK. Cant do without the morning cuppa. Tea. As others have said, get the coffee machine removed and a kettle and tea bags in, plus a milk delivery. There is always room service including an option to request an early drink only on the breakfast card.
rmalbers Posted August 25 #66 Share Posted August 25 I've never used the pods in the room, I always figured the coffee wouldn't be as good as what you get out of the very expensive machines in the bar/s. From the comments it sounds like people are saying the pod coffee is ok, is it really better or just a 'convenient' thing? (I guess I'll just have to try it, lol.) Rare FlyerTalker Posted August 25 #67 Share Posted August 25 IIRC, this is the machine. Download the manual to either your laptop or tablet so you have a complete guide to using the coffee maker. I found this quite useful as the previous guest had adjusted the amount of water for each cup. The manual tells how you can either reset it to factory default, or increase/decrease to your own taste. My only request -- if you adjust it, return it to the default on your last day, so the next folks do have to wonder why there is so little/so much water being processed for each cup. https://www.nespresso.com/shared_res/manuals/essenza-mini/2017/UM_NESPRESSO_ESSENZA_MINI_BREVILLE_PROD_WEB_2017_02_20.pdf (Please correct me if the machines have changed) 1

I think that the coffee from the room machines is better than the coffee on the tables in WC, but not as good as the barista’s in the LR.
Rare Clay Clayton Posted August 25 #69 Share Posted August 25 I agree with you about the made to order in the Living Room but once I learned that the best coffee for my taste was using the WC machines to make an americano with an extra shot of espresso, I stopped making coffee in the room.

You're right! And that's my go to on my way to the gym in the early mornings. But I have to agree with the above, the coffee served in the WC at the table is much like drinking slightly flavoured water.

But for the new ships, Vela, Vesta, etc I would guess that might be a time they put Vertuo machines in. But not sure why they'd want to. Might as well keep standardized. Everyone certainly has very different opinions when it comes to coffee (and liquor, wine, beer, food, etc !!!). We personally enjoy the Nespresso and don't like the other coffee on the ship, especially WC at the tables. Too weak for us and for us it has an odd taste. But I know there are many who feel completely different, just like there are many who enjoy the Nespresso coffee. Nice that there are choices for everyone!
