Some European cruises just cancelled

We were just notified that our Star Legend Europe - France cruise booked for May 18, 2022 was just cancelled along with a few others.  The reason they gave was Covid concerns and ship realignment.  They offered us 500 obc if we rebook another cruise departing before June 30 and 200 obc for those after June 30 if we leave the money with them.  Of course they also offered a full refund.  The strange thing is that several Star Legend cruises are not even being offered anymore and most of the earlier Mediterranean cruises were not affected.  The Star Pride and Legend has switched some of their trips.  It is strange that this happened since Europe seems to be reopening to Covid with less restrictions.  I got this info by email and I had to call to get additional explanations in which they could not explain why the cruises were cancelled.  Has anyone else had this happen to them recently where the cruise is more than several months away.

How disappointing for you. It does seem pretty weird if cruises leaving BEFORE yours aren't impacted.  Sounds like it has more to do with "ship realignment" than covid.

We have a cruise booked on the Legend in July (Norway) which is round-trip out of Copenhagen. Denmark is exploding with covid right now and is on the CDC no-go list, so we're watching how that develops. Hopefully by July it will have calmed down. On the other hand, maybe we'll get cancelled too.

We live in Belmont Shore. Very close to you!

What a disappointment for you- it does semi unusual. I wonder what they are doing with this “ship realignment.”

There is a cruise ending April 21 and then not another sailing until May 29.

Yesterday I too received a notice from Windstar that are Star Legend B2B cruises for France and the Norwegian Fjords have been cancelled.  The subsequent cruises to the Norwegian Fjords have also been cancelled.  Instead the Star Legend will be cruising in the Mediterranean.  The international situation may also have influenced Windstar's move .  News from Norway isn't encouraging.

Norway just lifted restrictions, could you share what the bad news is?

If you read the international press, you will find that Norway has accused the Russians of sabotaging its underwater cable system. More than 4.3 kilometers from a 66-kilometer of a network of specially designed sea fiber optic and electrical cables connecting the nodes of underwater sensors with control stations on the shore, has been attacked and disappeared. Cables were located on the Norwegian continental shelf and allowed to monitor the underwater situation in the Norwegian Sea. Damage to the system has paralyzed the surveillance network.  It is suspected that the damage was done to ensure that Russian submarine movements could not be tracked.

After talking to Windstar again, they said the Star Pride refurbishment was behind schedule so they had to realign the cruises for this along with the Legend, but this does not fully explain why there are no cruises scheduled for the Pride from May 15 to June 9 and the Legend for almost all of May.

I was very interested in trying Windstar when they announced the renovations of the three sisters.  Then our Legend cruise was cancelled because the first ship took so long.  Then Covid gave them a chance to get all that work done, but now they are still not finished?

News to Windstar:  life goes on.  I have booked 11 cruises from Sep 2022 through Oct 2024 – and none of them are on Windstar.  At this point they will have to get some pretty good reviews of cruises that actually happen before I consider them again.

This is the explanation we received for our May trip being cancelled.

"We are sorry to inform you that due to fleet scheduling changes your clients’ cruise has been canceled. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has impacted our bookings for spring sailings in Europe, and we must adjust accordingly. Star Pride will launch in June, and Star Legend will pick up select Star Pride sailings in April and May. We apologize for the inconvenience and invite your clients to join us on an alternative cruise itinerary."

This is so confusing because the Star Pride has already been stretched. What refurbishment is happening?
