bgomes Posted February 23, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 23, 2022 Which is the side of the train for scenery is best. We will be going up from Skagway by train, then back by bus
Northern Aurora Posted February 23, 2022 #2 Share Posted February 23, 2022 Left side of the rail cars. Those sitting on the right side as you depart from Skagway will be looking at some rock cliffs.

don't-use-real-name Posted February 24, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2022 Note: On the train to the Summit the left side is favored going up and the right side going back. It used to be that only the locomotives would relocate from the front of the train to the rear for the trip back to Skagway - "BUT" with the recent construction of a loop the there is no repositioning of the locomotives. The whole train to turned around - - - - - - - - - - left is now right and v-v. What used to happen - all the passengers to faced forward in the direction of travel - at the Summit the seats are hinged and flipped over so everyone was facing in the new forward direction. In some cases the seats in the front or rear of a car only one side flipped so a party of 4 could face each other That all changed with that recent construction of the loop Trains to Fraser (starting point of other Canada interior excursions) - the locomotives are relocated to the other end of the train and the seats flipped. Trains after returning to Skagway all seats are flipped and the locomotives moved to the other end of the train to start the next Summit trip Not all trains to and over the Summit are fully packed to capacity - feel free to move about the car (but you are cautioned to not move between cars). Before leaving Skagway if you see a car with fewer passengers inquire about moving to that car. Any questions ASK the car attendant or train Conductor ! One thing be in AWE of the travel that used to be across a ravine on the remnants of an old trestle bridge near the top of the Summit pass - truly an engineering wonder of the modern world ! donaldsc Posted February 24, 2022 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2022 When I did the train trip, I spent all my time on the open areas between the cars so the side made no difference. DON
