Panorama ( or all Vista Class? ) Elevator Public announcement.

The smart elevators are only as smart as those using them. The elevator: NEEDS EACH AND EVERY PERSON TO ENTER< OR HAVE SOMEONE< enter their floor selection.

The elevator programming needs to know how many people are going to getting in, or out for next usage.

There needs to be better signage telling such. I did see once in a 7 day cruise, the floor board actually issue this. Not done enough.

Also would be really nice to see where the elevator car is, but oh well.

We would push the floor we wanted and even if the floor was up, we'd go down a few floors to fill up. Only happened twice.

Really like not having to stop on all floors after bored teens have their elevator party.

We sailed the Vista back pre-covid. It instantly became our least favorite class of ship. The elevators were one of the reasons. Unless they have changed them, pushing the button for an elevator did not signal all the elevators, just a couple. So everyone went around pushing all the call buttons...

I can't say I am sure I understand what you are saying about each and every person entering a floor selection though. You mean if my wife and I get on and we are both going to 8 we need to push 8 two times? That would make the elevator system designers even dumber than I thought they were. Almost as dumb as whoever put the casino bathrooms a mile away from the casino.

I love these elevators.  If there are two people in the party you press it twice. That way the elevator calculates how many people are getting in and out.  Quite simple.  I was on the Panorama a few weeks ago, they worked perfectly.  The best elevator system I’ve seen on any ship, very little waiting. Never had to wait for several full cars to stop and move on.  Loved them and Vista Class is my new favorite class..  the elevators are one of the reasons!!  Booked on Horizon in July!

Currently on Panorama and am not a fan. First day of course most people had no clue. No signage at elevator or any info in cabin explaining anything.

We have been on the Vista so had a clue but didn't help us any. Everytime we use the elevator when we are the only ones waiting we are left waiting and waiting and waiting. Have never wasted so much time waiting for an elevator anywhere I have traveled including Vegas!

Correct.  You push it the number of times that corresponds to the number of people in your party.  The problem came into play when a family of 4 pushed the button once and 4 people got on the elevator and the elevator was only expecting one person. This would result in a possible overabundance of people on a given elevator.

I was on the Panorama a couple weeks ago, and the issue was’t that people didn’t know how to use the elevators — heck, I’d guess that a large percentage of the ship had previously been on the Panorama — it was that the computers would assign the same elevator to everyone.  More than once on the Lido Deck, I’d see the elevator assigned to every floor, even though large families were trying to get on it.  That said, it was annoying, but only happened a few times, and perhaps the system saved us time overall.  Who knows?

smart elevators are becoming increasingly common, especially in touristy destinations, so I’d bet most people have had exposure to them before.

EDIT: I didn’t realize that you pressed the button multiple times.  I guess it would be helpful if Carnivals posted instructions, because that’s somewhat unique.

Vista is different. With Vista I think they tried to mimic the setup with glass elevators but without glass elevators. If you think about it glass elevators only go between like 3-10. So Vista has a couple elevators that go to the floors the glass elevators went to. A couple that go to 12 and a couple that go all the way up.

The problem is if you want to go to lido and you want your best chance of getting to it quickly, you have to hit three buttons. You get on one and the other two stop when they don’t need to. It’s the same as on say Dream class when you hit that button for the forward elevator and you hit the button for the glass elevator. They’re just all together. This is only the forward elevators mid and aft are normal.

Then with horizon and  panorama they added smart elevators but people don’t understand that they’re supposed to hit the button for each person getting in so the elevator knows when it’s full.

With Mardi Gras they just went back to regular elevators.

It’s there. People don’t want to read it though. They just want to get where they’re going.

Just read the signs. Nothing wrong with the designers. It is obviously a user problem. Operator error.

We were on Vista and as Saint Greg pointed out it is different. But I still think it is a designer error. The whole world gets on an elevator and pushes their floor once and these designers expect everyone to bow to their way of doing things. Making the simple complicated is not good design.

With your way of thinking we would all still be using flip phones.  Carnival made the change for the Horizon and the Panorama.  Cruised on the Horizon twice and had no problem with them.  Obviously the beards decided to go back to regular elevators since that is what's on the MG.

Because their complicated way was ignored by most folks and thus they didn't get the result they wanted. Design has to take human behavior into account.

Because the majority of Carnival cruisers are too lazy to read an instruction sign.  There is nothing complicated about pressing a button the same number of times that corresponds to the number of people in your party.  Not having the comprehension to work a smart elevator properly just reinforces the stigmatism that proceeds many Carnival cruisers.

Someone runs up to the elevator lobby as the door is closing. "Hold that elevator!" No, sorry, can't let you on. You haven't gotten your assigned letter, bye...

Family of five. Dad pushes the button 5 times and gets two assigned letter A and three assigned letter B. A arrives - sorry kids you have to wait for B - find us if you can.

That is what the "smart" people do. Us plain ol' Carnival Cruisers just say the heck with that bologna. I can't understand how you bear to be around us.

Sorry but your examples are not how it works. But I guess you would rather have people push you aside to crowd into an elevator that will stop at every floor when no one can get on. The system works better than the old but some people just can’t comprehend progress. FYI don’t go to any newer hotels in a big city.

Not everyone remembered to buckle their seat belts when they became mandatory but that didn’t mean the law was scrapped.

If you read Saint Greg's posting that shows the instructions, it does indeed work that way. "Note, you may receive different letter assignments."  You push the button let's say five times.  The system will fill up a car.  If car A only has room for three people, the other two will be assigned to car B.

I have  said right from the start of these elevators, how difficult would it be for the makers to change the pads so that after you select your deck, you select how many people are in your party.  That would end the confusion.

My comment was related to their responses. “You can’t get on if you didn’t have time to push the button” and “kids, find us if your can!” Little dramatic.

And I agree they should have had the option to select a number of passengers but the didn’t so intelligent people deal with it. It is still much more efficient than the old way. Maybe it would be worse if you could just push once and then enter a number such as ten. People would then need to be able to discern if the response was to divide into two elevators. 😂

Yeah that doesn't work in this system because there are no buttons in the elevator.

What you do there is hit the button two more times and all will get B.

My guess is the system wasn't designed for cruise ships where thousands of people are going all over the place at the same time...And companies that make systems like that charge a lot of money for custom changes.

This is available although the majority of the time it shows elevator assignment. I only saw it once in 7 days being displayed. We had a room on the Lido deck where this should've always been posted.

Well, good luck with that, because there are no buttons on the inside of the elevator. You can't just run up and get in one because it may not be going where you want to be.

Good point! This system is sounding better and better. 🤣
