Princess Cay

I'm looking at booking our first Princess cruise and am curious how those of you that have been to Princess Cay & have been to other parts of the Bahamas on a cruise feel about the private island. We've not been to the Bahamas before and am wondering if the private island will really be representative of the Bahamas.

Is there anything authentically Bahamian about the experience?

Can you snorkel there? Would the experience be typical of what you might experience on another Bahama island?

Princess Cay is a tropical beach with lounges, lunch pavilions, swimming, bar service. All the things you would expect at a beach. There is a snorkle area there.

Have been to Nassau. That is a good size town with Paradise Island nearby and the large hotel complex.

Wondering if we can leave the club area? We have been to Eleuthera  before and would like to rent a car for t he day and revisit some areas in the south. Any hope of that?  Ideas?

From what I recently read people weren't allowed to leave the compound.

Things may have changed by now.
