Lorey2007 Posted March 12, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2022 Should be buy our tickets for the Mt Roberts tram from RCL, buy them online or buy them when we get to the tram. We will be on Ovation what is the distance to the tram we're seniors can we walk or is a shuttle available through RCL?
Northern Aurora Posted March 12, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2022 We have never pre-purchased the tram tickets. While the line may seem long the tram cars are sufficiently large that it moves quickly. And this is an attraction which you may want to forego if the weather is bad. Do you know which dock the Ovation will use? Most of the docks are very near the tram ticket office. The AJ dock is the farthest out, and while we walk the distance I believe there is a shuttle. Rare Ferry_Watcher Posted March 12, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2022 I agree with @Northern Aurora. Wait until you arrive and see how clear it is. You may want to go up later in the day after you have done other sightseeing excursions. Although, always factor in enough time to return to the ship. Hope the weather is clear when you are there! Enjoy.
SightCRR Posted March 12, 2022 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2022 (edited) Cruise Ship Schedule Calendar Combined Ports (secureservercdn.net) show they dock at Ak Steam Dock and google says that is 0.2 miles and 3 min walk. Don't buy the tickets until you can see top to verify you will have good views. sightcrr. Edited March 12, 2022 by SightCRR

Grandma struggles with mobility and this will help in talking with her and our group about plans for Juneau.

If mobility is an issue, you might want to have / rent a wheelchair for her (assuming she doesn't normally use one). It's still a bit of a distance from the ship, as well as waiting in line to get on the tram, as well as possibly waiting to get the tram off the mountain. Or, look into one of those walkers that she can sit on. FYI, there is a public restroom just outside the tram ticket office.

She has a walker that allows her to sit, but I will definitely bring up the wheelchair rental idea. Also thank you for information on the bathroom. SightCRR Posted March 13, 2022 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2022 I am not sure why but in general many of the sidewalks in AK are not flat so when trying to see new sights caution needs to be taken not to fall. sightcrr

alohayall Posted March 19, 2022 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2022 I think my cruises have always docked at the far pier. And there has always been a shuttle that drops off near the Mt Roberts Tram. Otherwise, it would not have been a comfortable walk for someone with mobility limitations. Have a great cruise.
