Victoria - Johnson Street Bridge

Recommended Posts

If the weather is pleasant, we might walk along the waterfront of the Vic West & Esquimalt neighborhoods.  There is a paved walkway.  We know that we can take a ferry across from the Inner Harbour.  Is it possible (and safe) to walk across the Johnson Street Bridge to reach Vic West?

It should be very safe - every time we've visited Spinnakers (one of the two truly-civilized pubs in the country, with a proper British-temperature beer cellar for Real Ales, though we prefer the beers at Swans on Pandora just before crossing the bridge) we've walked over the Johnson St bridge, mostly on the old blue one. The new one (2018 IIRC) is way more pedestrian-friendly with bike lanes and sidewalks 'stuck on' to the sides so totally separated from the car traffic.

We have a condo which we book once a year next to the Coast Hotel. I often walk across the Johnston St Bridge. The new bridge has totally safe and separate walking and cycling routes either side of the roadway.

Totally agree with the previous post regarding Spinnakers & Swans, 2 of my favourite Victoria pubs.

The seawalk which you would rejoin after crossing the Johnson St Bridge is a lovely walk right to West Bay, Esquimalt and goes right past Spinnaker's  for a Beer or Lunch or you can cut off at Head St and down Esquimalt Rd to Vic West.

The walk from Johnson St to West Bay Marina is approx. 5km .

Another option you can take the little Victoria Harbour Ferry back to the Inner Harbour or up the Gorge area Selkirk and Railyards. you can check this at :- https://victoriaharbourferry.com there you will find route maps and pricing as well as times of operation.

Enjoy your Cruise and enjoy Victoria !!
