Kethry88 Posted February 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 26, 2006 The Paradise was the non-smoking ship, however, Carnival has discontinued the program. All ships now allow smoking.
wannacruisemore Posted February 26, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 26, 2006 There isn't any!!!! Used to be just 1 ship. They usually have specific areas that you can smoke. If people would only be considerate when they do smoke!!!

If people would only be considerate when they do smoke!!! I would say that "most" people are considerate, but a few bad apples can mislead anyone into stereotyping ALL smokers.. The revenues on the Paradise could not support a total non smoking ship... Basically, your smokers usually spend more money on drinks and gambling than non smokers. luvgreys Posted February 26, 2006 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2006 I would like to think I am considerate when I smoke. Thank you..because so many are not!!:p I do not mind when people smoke in a bar, or a casino... (I used to smoke) But when I am trying to relax on a pool chair, and the person next to me is having one after another, and blowing it in my face, that is RUDE! The OP was simply asking a question, and she is a smoker, so it was being asked because she wants to avoid the ship. Can it be true that she is bein "considerate"?.....No, she is a smoker, she cannot be :(.
VentureMan_2000 Posted February 26, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 26, 2006 Ohhh.... Ouch! No such ship... dream on. Smoking is not that bad. I don't smoke... and don't like it... but that's life... get use to it.
wannacruisemore Posted February 26, 2006 #9 Share Posted February 26, 2006 WOW...so many people are getting defensive on this board. I am not bashin anyone for smoking. Believe it or not I have been a smoker for many years (not proud of it) But I still believe some give it a bad rap! Being from San Diego where there the "no smoking" is very strict, when on vacation it is nice to be able to have a cig and not get chastied for it!!!! molly361 Posted February 26, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 26, 2006 I was told by several Carnival employees that used to work on the non smoking Ship (Paradise) that the reason it went back to smoking is that they were not making enough money - not enough gambling and drinking- unconfirmed story but we heard it from more than one source:cool:

I just had to say....I never interpreted wannacruisemore to be bashing anyone at all. They just simply suggested that IF only people would be considerate...guessing to mean that it makes everyone's time more enjoyable if people are considerate. Wanna never pointed any fingers at anyone specifically or was at all rude. So...shame shouldn't lie with them. Someone was JUMPING to conclusions!!!!! Now, I am a non-smoker and I would have to say that the majority of the smokers I know, are very considerate. And of course you will find your occasional rude smoker. BUT, they are probably just a RUDE person over all and it doesn't have a thing to do with the cigarette hanging out of their mouth. Just as there are some non-smokers that are rude as well. Coughing and Gagging and making a scene when it is present. Puh-leeze. It's a two-way street.
budster Posted February 26, 2006 #12 Share Posted February 26, 2006 We were on the Paradise when it was non-smoking and it was wonderful. Too bad they could not make it financially. On the Celebrity ships they designate one side of the ship for smokers. That worked out really well. I don't think nearly as many smoke now as in the past. The casino seems to be the main place where smoke can be bothersome. Most people are considerate. :)

Cotton Posted February 26, 2006 #15 Share Posted February 26, 2006 But when I am trying to relax on a pool chair, and the person next to me is having one after another, and blowing it in my face, that is RUDE! On Carnival ships, when on the Lido Deck by the pool, there is one side designated non-smoking. There are signs posted. One side has ashtrays on the patio tables, the other doesn't. Just don't sit on the smoking side, because the guy next to you does have the right to smoke there. I think most smokers are considerate. I know I am. I'm very aware of folks around me, and would not consider smoking in a crowd or in any undesignated area. Unfortunately, there are the clods who just don't give a darn. But, folks should not clump us all into one big lump, y'know? I've been surprised to see that many areas of the ships have changed former smoking areas into non-smoking. The inside promenades that once had ashtrays on the tables by the windows are now non-smoking areas. It doesn't matter to me - much. I used to enjoy sitting there and looking out - but I can go to an outside deck, so not that big a deal. I appreciate the fact that the dining rooms and main showlounge are non-smoking. Nobody wants to be having dinner with smoke swirling around them....and it's nice to watch a performance without having to look through a veil of smoke. That comment from a smoker? See - we aren't all 'rude'.
candigirl41 Posted February 26, 2006 #16 Share Posted February 26, 2006 When we were on the Spirit we knew which side was smoking and stuck to that side. Ashtrays were very hard to come by. In the casino my friend wanted to play 3 card poker and was told by all at the table only if you don't smoke! Very funny since the casino is a smoking area. I know there isn't room but it would be nice if the casino could have non-smoking areas for those of us that do not smoke. I thought those people were rather rude for pushing someone out in a legal smoking area. Candi

Rare silentbob007 Posted February 26, 2006 #19 Share Posted February 26, 2006 No, there are no non smoking cabins on Carnival Ships. ... and to be honest, they are cleaned very well and I have never been in a cabin that I immediately knew that the person in it before me smoked. It's kind of funny ... on my last cruise, my table was surrouned by (what a I guess) were a large group of European travelers. One of the ladies it up in the dining room, and the waiter immediately rushed over to collect the cigarette and inform her that there was no smoking. jw4jg1mg2eg1 Posted February 26, 2006 #20 Share Posted February 26, 2006 OK, I'm usually a fun-lovin' character....but this is a sore spot to me...for several reasons. I smoked for alot of years & when I quit 10 yrs ago I swore I would never be rude to those who choose to smoke. My generation was the last of the "live & let live" generations. We were taught not to make a fuss over the way other's lived. But these days it's so hard to be that way....because it's very rare to find another person who believes in that anymore. There's lots of things that I can't stand to be around also...things that get on my nerves so bad I would like to start a ruckus over them but I don't. To make my point, I'll give you a couple of examples: 1. When I go to any theatre, I always find a place where I have atleast a semi-clear view of the screen/stage. I am a short person. 95% of the time either a very tall person or a woman with a big hair do will choose the chair in front of me while there are other seats available.....should I start a petition requesting a section of seats just for short people? 2. I love perfumes & cologns but I can't wear them. I get a serious headache & my sinus' get all clogged up & the glands in my kneck get sore. When I'm in a crowd, I feel like I'm suffocating with all the different aromas that come from everybody else.....should I start a petition requesting a section of everywhere I go be banned by those who choose to smell good? Well, of course it's NO to both these issues.....they are rediculous issues to the majority of people. They just happen to be things that get to me... I just think people have found something they can legally gripe about & make a big issue over & are deterimined to be the loudest one in the group. I say wake up in the morning with a smile on your face & be determined that you will try not put yourself in any situations that make you uncomfortable. If it's not possible to do that then all you can say is "I did try".....Life's too short to constantly be looking for something to complain about.:D Ok, I'm off my soapbox now..I hope EVERYBODY has an AWSOME & CAREFREE cruise!! LHP Posted February 26, 2006 #21 Share Posted February 26, 2006 luvgreys: We were on the Conquest, before the designated smoking areas were implemented. I was surprised that this ship did seem to "hold the smoke" worse than any other one we had been on. This surprised me since it was only a month old (and the largest at the time) and I figured that they would have installed a decent air filtration system when they built this brand new huge ship. Well, they built bigger, but they did not build smarter. The piano bar was the worse. Because even though only 3 people in the entire bar was smoking (and it is a pretty good size piano bar) the entire bar was in a constant haze. Hopefully, this has been much improved since the implementation of the designated smoking areas. I have not sailed her since then. As Cotton put it so eloquently, not even smokers want to sit in a haze. Personally, I think it is time that Carnival stepped up to the plate and stopped worrying about building a smoke-free ship and simply build a "haze-free" ship. Non-smokers and smokers alike should be able to gamble together without interference. The technology is out there. We (as the consumer) just need to be a little more aggressive in requesting it. F5Loar Posted February 27, 2006 #25 Share Posted February 27, 2006 Speaking of smoking and the increasing public awareness of the dangers and the passing of laws banning pulbic smoking, today I read in our local paper that starting March 1 our local prison will go totally non-smoking for all inmates and guards. Now that should take some real reality shocks into some fits! One guard said he would pretty much have to go cold turkey as he likes his job enough to do it. Also last month our local hospital went totally non-smoking full property. That means no more stepping outside for a quicky or even across the street. I hope to live long enough to see all cruise ships follow the popular trend of pulbic places going totally non-smoking.
