klfhngr Posted May 4, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2022 Not sure what to pick, we have a chance to upgrade. For a 10 day Europe cruise, would you choose PORT side or STERN?
Rare cruisestitch Posted May 4, 2022 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2022 We need more information. what kind of room? What deck? Do you have any specifics?
klfhngr Posted May 4, 2022 Author #3 Share Posted May 4, 2022 Veranda, either facing port or facing stern/aft.
lola2013 Posted May 4, 2022 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2022 Is a SV an option you might consider? I sailed in one on deck 7 for ten nights in January and it was great.
klfhngr Posted May 5, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted May 5, 2022 That's the room that we can move to. From port to SV Stern. Just wondering if the views are better in SV than Port view cabin.
helen haywood Posted May 5, 2022 #6 Share Posted May 5, 2022 (edited) Yes, the Sunset Veranda’s full aft view will be better…IMHO. Edited May 5, 2022 by helen haywood
klfhngr Posted May 5, 2022 Author #7 Share Posted May 5, 2022 Even when in port? That's our question I guess, can you see the ports when the ship is parked? Is it a better view than the port view verandah.
lola2013 Posted May 5, 2022 #8 Share Posted May 5, 2022 I don't know if you can predict how the ship will be docked at any given port.
Denny01 Posted May 5, 2022 #9 Share Posted May 5, 2022 with a SR on Starboard or Portside, you have no idea what it will face. The pierside or opposite. And in Europe, many of the piers for cruise ships are well within the port area and you’ll have ‘views’ either side. But not For Sure. As to Stern, again depends on how the ship is tied up to the pier and ‘facing’ which way. Deciding on what ‘side’ or if stern will give you a better view during a port call is not predictable. But a Stern may give you the ability to see either side a bit. enjoy! den
klfhngr Posted May 5, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted May 5, 2022 Ah, thank you! Ugh! Not sure what to do, lol! We love aft, but this is first time on a European cruise. So we're thinking about the view, whether while sailing or while in port.

The view, IMHO, is the wake and everything that goes with it. You certainly are not going to stay onboard when the ship is in port, so what ships are birthed should not make a difference. There are nice views all over the ship, but my favorite is the view of the wake when the ship is sailing. I have been to all of your ports with a wake view/suite. SV will be next May for most of the same ports. It is a longer walk, but so worth it! Edited May 5, 2022 by Lastdance
