I heard from a current passenger on the Edge that she and her Covid+ husband are staying on the ship for the subsequent sailing.  Does anybody know what "the required quarantine period" is?

For all Celebrity cruises scheduled to sail from the European Union or the United Kingdom between
May 1, 2022 and November 30, 2022, inclusive, if you test positive for COVID-19 during the
voyage:

 Celebrity will cover the cost of necessary COVID-19 related medical treatment onboard
the ship;

 you and members of your Traveling Party may stay onboard the ship to complete any
required quarantine period, without needing to pay additional cruise fare
, stateroom
gratuities or taxes/fees to Celebrity for the same; and

 Celebrity will assist with coordinating travel arrangements to get you and members of your
Traveling Party back home, but will not be responsible for any associated costs.

That policy was issued recently, but people did not realize the impact until it began to be implemented.

Notice it says to complete required quarantine - not necessarily a complete free cruise.  Currently, ships are requiring at least 10 days unless the patient tests negative under stated protocols.

 Once you have met the required number of days, you will be disembarked.

Does not matter if they are not disembarking in Italy. When ten days is up they get off the ship depending on the local requirements for quarantine. The itinerary may have other ports in another country with less stringent quarantine requirements. UK has no legally mandated quarantine, only recommendations.

So after 10 days if you are in port  they kick you off the ship even if you are testing positive? Does it depend on the quarantine rules of the country?

You have to complete the required number of days. The ship’s doctor will issue a letter stating that you have completed quarantine. That and the proof of a positive PCR will get you a certificate of recovery or a fitness to fly document.

Local authorities have the final decision. I can’t say if that is accepted everywhere, but it meets the ship’s obligation to you and satisfies the requirement to board a flight to the US.
