To cruiseypop,

How can you post your assessment of the plumbing issues when you weren't on the ship?  And how dare you tell this forum or anybody else that the people that are discussing their real issues on board this ship are gold diggers/trolls/ or just bored.

I joined this forum solely to let whoever reads this know that the issues on the ship were real.  The toilets in a lot of rooms simply did not flush.  For the entire cruise.  Some hallways stunk.  People (that I spoke to personally) had to go to a public restroom every day to go to the bathroom.  Fortunately, my only plumbing problem was no hot water for 4 days.  No hot shower, in Alaska, for 4 days.

But despite these plumbing issues, the main issue is that every shore excursion was cancelled.  The itinerary changed daily, resulting in every shore excursion offered was cancelled.  Nobody on board got to do any of their prepaid excursions.  When the topic of every meal was to go around the table and discuss what they didn't get to do on their bucket list trip to Alaska, that is a problem.   Every day, a new itinerary, arrival to a port too late, and all excursions cancelled.

The people on board I spoke with - my 80 year old mom and I celebrating Mother's Day,  a recently retired couple on their dream trip purchased by their kids for them, a Scout Leader couple given the trip from their troops for their dedication to these kids and families, another daughter and mother on their last trip due to the moms medical diagnosis - the list goes on and on, all deprived of their Alaskan adventure.  We all wanted, expected, and paid for not just a view of Alaska, to wave as we sailed by, but to experience Alaska.

We are quick to judge on the internet.  Not everybody is trying to get something for nothing.  Most people, like me, work hard for their money and just want and expect to get what they paid for.  This didn't happen.

I just thought about something.  Given all the discussion about the toilets overflowing, flooding in the halls, etc.  Where are the pics and videos?  I've searched all the social medial sites, youtube and nothing.  Not even so much as a wet floor cone. Absolutely nothing.

I mean come one... people record EVERYTHING now a days.  Every waking moment of some people is video or photos taken.  Suspicious that nothing on this out there.

Weird.

I do believe they had a toilet clog issue (I saw posted somewhere that a guest flushed a wash cloth down the toilet), but I think this issue was resolved rather quickly and only affected a small group of people for a short time - maybe a day.  Which yes is awful and I would consider a major inconvenience.  But, some people are carrying on like the ship almost met the fate of the Titanic.

Given most people on the cruise (2200) haven't really complained and a small group (I've only seen less than a dozen myself), I don't think this really was that bad at all.

I think this is a group of people trying to gin this up into something bigger.  For what reason I'm not sure, gold digging, axe grinding, trolling, boredom?  Who knows?

But, given what I've read, I've seen, the lack of photo/video evidence.  I think the plumbing issue on the May 7th sailing was a very small problem that was fixed rather quickly and really will be a non-issue going forward.  (Unless a guest flushes a towel again).

Very rude from someone who doesn’t know what they are talking about.  Two of my travel mates were on the floor most affected. The smell was present throughout the week. Issues with the toilets and hot water not working we’re present all week. No one owes anyone on this site evidence. I had serious plumbing issues on another cruise and never posted “evidence “ here either. I can tell you I saw workers in the area daily, smelled sewage daily and passenger services had long lines constantly and the plumbing issues were an issue every single day. Don’t presume and don’t disrespect the people who had issues.

Everyone should have their survey now, I hope you complete it.

another thing I thought of is we didn’t get a credit for port fees for juneau which we all paid as we were supposed to go there.

I suppose they lumped that with the $100, but I will be bringing that up as well.

Hmm I got mine yesterday. It should be in your email. Did you book through a travel agent? It may be different if so.

It has to be emailed.  Back in February we did a b2b but only got a survey for the first cruise.  At that time some people were posting that they were not getting their surveys.  Maybe the problem is still happening.

We were fortunate that we did not have the toilet issue but I can assure you we did smell it.  We were actually on the cruise, but my first instinct is to not record myself or my wife's reaction to an unpleasant odor and put it on social media, neither of us are on social media anyways.  We did talk to quite a few passengers and a couple first time cruisers who actually had the issue.  Perhaps they are not on CC or perhaps they don't post their vacation experiences good or bad to social media for the world to see.  I realize I'm in the minority by not being on social media but if the proof you seek is a video of someones waste not being flushed and their reaction to it, well then it reinforces my decision to not be on social media.  Of the 2200 passengers who were on board how many would have to post to CC or on every social media outlet to satisfy you?

We are trying to contact Princess to discuss this sailing, the very good experiences and service we received as well as the very real disappointments that we feel resulted from the decisions that were made by Princess that had a real impact on our vacation, for those that were actually on this sailing and spent a lot of money to take it.  This is not boredom or trolling, I do plan on voicing my opinion that the 20% FCC and $100 OBC is too light for what was missed.  I am not demanding a free cruise, we did receive an enjoyable week but at the end of the day we spent a week pre cruise trying to reschedule excursions, dining times and worrying about taking a cruise on a ship with a known propulsion problem.  We were not given the option to switch sailings like others were. We tried.  In the end like many others all of our excursions were cancelled.  We went to ports, mostly late and had very little to do or see. This was unfortunate, and yes I am aware of what the contract says and that things happen.  Many of us feel frustrated that this appears to have been known issue and we were the test cruise to see how the Crown could perform.  It is for these reasons I will ask for more, my personal thought is we lost more than 20% of the experience.  If that is gold digging in your opinion so be it.

We are on the sailing on the 28th and following along…

on a related note, we got off Independence of the Seas last week and had the same “unpleasant” odor in certain areas of the ship…

First ... it's only a very small problem if it does not impact you personally.

Second ... it isn't merely towels and washcloths that are problematic.

Apparently WIPES (even tho the pkg says they're flushable) cause HUGE problems at land and sea ... why else would our last captain Feb 2020 stress in his welcome msg not to flush them?

I have completed my survey and formally submitted my complaints to Princess. Considering that they decided to sail the Crown with so many issues convince me that my feedback and request for refund will be unheard. After 40 cruises I can say it was the worst experience I have ever experienced on a cruise. The staff was heroic, the naturalist (Rachel) was awesome, and Alaska is magical. We made the best of it and will always remember our family journey despite bad choices from Princess decision makers. This was my 4th and LAST Princess cruise. I even earned a free cruise from the casino that I will not use since this cruise line is no longer trustworthy in my opinion. I look forward to my next cruise on ROYAL CARIBBEAN!

HERE IS WHAT I SENT TO THE TOP 3 CEOs OF PRINCESS AS WELL AS CARNIVAL, parent company.  That was 3 dys ago....no response from anyone.  My last line is rather funny (now) considering that the HAL cruise to Norway has been cancelled.

I just returned from a week trip to Alaska from Seattle on the Crown Princess yesterday.  The cruise was May 7-14.

This is the 4th Princess cruise that we have taken, also having done a Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, and Holland America one time each.  And we have always preferred Princess to these other cruise lines (great food, entertainment, well run)………..until now.  I am sure that you are revieing or will receive all sorts of complaints from people about this first cruise of the Crown Princess (in 22 months) back to Alaska.  I should also say that I have sailed on the CP one other time, without any mishap.  I also, on the trip, gave kudos to 3 crew members—Martin in guest services, and room attendants Mirai (B335) and Valentino (L201) for the change of rooms).  I did this through guest services.

Let me document my trip for you. First, I will tell you that I am not calling this “a trip from hell”, that some other people on the ship called it.  I was unhappy at some times, but it was still a nice cruise even with the mishaps.

May 7—embarkation day.  Took forever.  We were to get there between 12:30-1, and by the tie we got up the escalator to the check-in clerks, it was about 1:30.  BTW, I had a GREEN on my medallion app:  absolutely everything done ahead of time.  No hot water in the cabin (L201)—I sent all sorts of notes through crewchat on the medallion app about this as well as talking to Martin in guest service in person.   Crewchat told me repeatedly that it was being fixed....NOT.

Our room attendant said that it was being fixed.  NOT.   I waited another whole day and a half and midday on the 9th, I had enough.  I went down to guest services (always 10 or more people in line) and asked for another room and was told that it was being fixed.  NOT.  Then i had to ask again.  Martin went out of his way to get us to another room, B335.  There was hot water because I tested it and took a shower.  Great.  However, over the next 3 days hot water came and went—mostly lukewarm.  I did not complain since they were good enough to change our room.  Besides, I had heard all sorts of other horrible stories about toilets in rooms overflowing and no AC for inside rooms.

The other obvious thing that was really annoying was the slow speed of the ship and the constant changing of itineraries---about 3 more changes slipped under the door, or given by the captain about changes in time of arrives.  It became a running joke.  We had a change in itinerary days before the cruise, then another change the evening before the cruise.  Then a couple more slipped under our door.

The ship evidently had TWO diesel engine problems (article online about this--Princess Cruise Ship Itinerary Change Due to Engine Maintenance (cruisehive.com)).  So why was the ship even used?  And even more incredible, it is going out again and again with this same problem.  Are you really thinking that you are making people happy and satisfied customers by providing a trip, no matter if it is a shitty experience?  The quality control is nonexistant here.

  • Skagway---Our longer railway excursion was changed to a rather boring one that went 14 miles.  And we had no time to even see Skagway—immediately got on a train and off the train back on the ship.  4 hrs later than we were supposed to get there.
  • No Juneau or Icy Strait
  • Later into Ketchikan than supposed to be but we had no excursion that day, so just walked
  • Glacier Bay went well
  • Victoria was a fiasco---supposed to be 8pm (way too late to see anything much to begin with but at least we were scheduled for an excursion to Butchart Gardens) but later than that.  Got in line to get off of the ship and we were on land at 9:15p..  Our tour was canceled.  We had 1 hour to wander around Victoria in the dark.  Although we did not have to be back until 12, the bus shuttles stopped running at 11.

Buffet food in the Horizon Court not as good as before on other Princess cruises although the restaurants were good.

The workers were fantastic and as nice as they could be.  But there seemed to be too few of them.  Is it true that Princess had no offices opened in the Philippines or Indonesia to hire workers?

Thanks for the $100 credit that was given as well as the 20% off for future cruises.  However, one really bad experience may not get you your customers back.

I am looking forward to my Holland America cruise to Norway this July.
