irishjim Posted May 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted May 10, 2022 My Wife Sheila agreed to cancel our 2 cruises on the Zuiderdam in September because of the surge in covid everywhere and at our ages we are not going to risk it this year. will be looking at 2023-4. Sheilas knees require surgery and hoping it can be done next year but there is a long wait list so will have to wait until they start surgery again. Well it is what is. Stay safe. Jim. 6

marshhawk Posted May 11, 2022 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Jim, I'm, sorry to read about the cancellations. It's very sad to keep reading that folks are unable to get the medical attention they need to live without pain, because the hospitals are so full of Covid cases.
farjar Posted May 11, 2022 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2022 My husband is in his late 70's and had his knee replaced in February. We leave in a week for our first post-surgery cruise. He attributes his successful recovery to two things; doing the exercises prescribed by the physical therapist and using an ice water circulation machine. The machine pumps ice water through a wrap that velcros around the knee instead of using ice packs. Because he was able to keep the swelling down it reduced his pain and therefor his need for the stronger narcotic medication. Our insurer provided ours but they are available for about $150 online. We wish her the best and hope you can return to cruising soon. 1
ger_77 Posted May 11, 2022 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2022 Sorry you had to cancel your cruises, but you do what's best for the two of you. Best wishes for successful surgery - DH had his done a few years ago and says it was life changing, as he has no more pain. As mentioned above, doing the exercises and having the ice water circulation machine both played a great part in his recovery process. 1
