Naples/Capri Ferry - Reliability

Hello.  I am trying to figure out scheduling as far as ferries in Naples to do Capri on our own.  If we take the ferry to/from Naples-Capri how reliable is it? The schedule at capri.net shows a 50 minute ferry at 4:30PM in August.  That would put us back in Naples at 5:20 PM.Is that reliable or should we take an earlier ferry at 3:25 PM to make sure we make it back to the cruise port before our ship leaves at 6 PM?  It looks the shore excursion available from Celebrity Cruises uses the  3:25 PM ferry?

One other question.  Are the boat tours of Capri at Marina Grande readily available after we arrive?  I didn't  want book in advance in case the weather is bad.

Thanks so much for the help in answering these questions.

The ferries are quite reliable, but having said that I would not risk it all on having only 10 minutes to make it to your ship before the "all aboard". (Ships generally request all guests be back on board 30 minutes before sailing.)

A five-minute delay could lead to a major headache. And keep in mind that 5:20 time probably refers to the moment the ship is tied up. It could take you an extra 5 minutes just to exit if the ferry is crowded.

Take the earlier ferry and take the stress out of the day.

Regarding the Blue Grotto -- yes, boats should be readily available at Marina Grande assuming conditions are favorable for entering the grotto.

Celebrity uses the 3:25 for a good reason.  They will make it back within a comfortable time.

The ferries are reliable, but if there are high winds and choppy water it can take longer to embark and disembark and for the transit itself.  One extra hour in Capri is not worth the risk of missing your ship.
