I've never understood why the shops and everything are closed while in port... I suppose that there's a reason for it, but... I mean, who are they competing with? The people on land can't get on the ship, so what would it matter to keep it opened? Same with the casino. The people on land can't get on the ship anyway, so why close the casino? I should have been a lawyer...

Local tax, labor and other laws would have to be followed. Mucho additional paperwork.

@Sid_9169.....you crack me up with the "things" you are obsessive about!

You get in a taxi in a foreign county, eat food you have no idea where it came from, wander a foreign country streets aimlessly with no sense of "fear"......but you worry about who sat in the back seat of the taxi before you!

We all have our own "quirks" and you put a big smile on my face many times with yours!

New York strip, medium rare. I don't know why it wants to add those pasta pictures. I can't make them go away.

Before posting check at the bottom of the edit. You should see a list of the pictures, including ones you may have inserted in a previous post. Just delete those entries. Tap each entry if the pic isn't showing. It should display part of the image. Tap the x in the upper right corner (may show a garbage can in a corner instead).

On the ship audio they were playing Mess Around by Ray Charles. I was thinking about the scene in Planes Trains and Automobiles with John Candy when it was playing in the car. He was playing the piano and horn... I remember back when I was in highschool, the movie Summer Rental was filmed in Atlanta at a house in a friend of mines neighborhood... Brings back great memories...

I'm going to go ahead and call it a pretty decent day... Notwithstanding the fifty dollar meal at the roadside restaurant. I don't know if I would ever book a cruise just because it came to Puerto Plata again, though. Nothing to really see or do there. I guess that tomorrow is a sea day and the next day Bimini. I'm thinking about renting a golf cart there to check out the local flavor. The beach club there is nice as well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we're actually going to Key West on the second leg. I've got my hand drawn map at the ready for that one. It's 8:23, and I'm full and had a few. Nothing really going on here specifically that I'm trying to get into. It could end up being another one of those early nights, but at least not as early as a couple of the nights on the Mardi Gras awhile back. I didn't even make it till sundown on a couple of days...

I think besides potential tax and labor issues, it might be related to agreements with the ports, to encourage more pax to get off the ships and spend land side.
