This is what Covid Quarentine looks like

Not to minimize what Iowananny reported, but I was on Sirena the same two weeks also, and heard from other people that their isolation wasn't bad.  They mentioned they were fed well, looked after, did some extra reading and TV watching/listening and passed the time as best they could.  But I agree that all the stuff we had to do for Israel and a couple other countries was certainly not fun or easy.  Luckily Israel dropped the cruiser testing requirement the day we disembarked.  But this cruise made it painfully clear to me that it is probably too soon to expect the same cruising experience we had two plus years ago.  The paperwork requirements were much greater, although Oceania DID encourage us to do most of those things at home pre-cruise. I ran out of time, however.  And while I thought the excursions were very good and not outrageously priced, I did notice that there were fewer choices if you wanted to do something other than take a ship-arranged excursion. Third-party excursions were harder to find, and almost nothing was offered right outside the various ports.  But all in all, even with some uncertainties hanging over our heads, and new reality to adjust to, we were glad we did not cancel our cruise.

I am not sure it was between the rich and poor.   The PH was our room of choice.

People decide to spend their money in different ways.  i would never spend my cruise dollars on a beverage package — especially a prestige package.  That would be wasted on us.  However, we like our space and the PH is just the right size.  To each his own.  So you spend your money your way, I spend mine my way.

There were others on the Nautica that were quarantined and not in PH and were treated just as well.

I really wonder if we would have been treated any differently if we were on the Sirena.

It may have been the difference between ships.

There may need to be more consistency throughout the line.

It does give me pause about sailing on the Sirena.  We have a cruise booked on her in Feb. 23.  Wonder if we should change ships.

Terri

Personally, I wouldn't change cruises or ships.  Granted, I didn't get sick, and didn't test positive.  But I felt Sirena and staff were great.  I heard few complaints.  And we were not in an inside cabin as usual this time, but I can tell you that we've booked insides much more than verandas and have never really noticed any difference in how we're treated in ANY cabin category we've chosen. Of course, there's no butler, concierge perks, etc.  But we've always been treated well.  And while Sirena just re-started cruising not long ago, I thought things went quite well.  I loved the ship, and crew.....

Thanks for your input.  Actually our cruise on the Sirena is on Feb. 7.  We are keeping the reservation. I hope we don’t get sick again.  it was not a pleasant experience even though we were treated well on the Nautica.  We missed the ports we wanted to see and I was pretty sick for about 4 weeks.  Just starting to feel better now and getting my appetite back.

I think a lot depends on how you approach people in the way you are treated.

We have no complaints with the way we were treated.

We are getting a refund for the days we were in quarantine.

testing is the norm now. If you want to cruise, accept testing.  The hassles of fulfilling the requirements of each port can be tough.  Even though I knew what was expected, actually fulfilling them in a timely manner can be a real hassle.  Will not plan anymore foreign travel or cruises. Staying in USA.

From what I know you are tested if and when you are remaining on board for another cruise (back to back) or if you are flying internationally and your flight requires testing.

Otherwise they do not test unless the port of call requires it.

Perhaps you should explain this. If you book a seventeen (17) day cruise from X to Y, that actually consist of a seven (7) day cruise and a ten (10) day cruise, are all those remaining aboard at Day 7 tested. It’s only one cruise credit!

Yes, you are tested again because it is a new cruise.  Doesn’t matter how many credits you get.  At least that is what happened on our Med cruise.  Two 12 day cruises.  Anyone remaining on board after the first 12 days was tested.

I just completed a B2B of a 12 and a 7 day cruise.   I received two credits as it was a custom cruise.

Do you want to see those missing ports?  Come join us on your original  October 13th cruise on Riviera.  🙂

That is how it worked on my B2B as well.  Everyone who stayed on for the second leg (there were only 30 of us) had to be tested.

Not sure we want to go back to Europe so quickly.  That cost us a bunch of money and we really missed more than just the six days of quarantine due to fatigue.  Even the refund did not make up for what we missed.

We were on the Sirena from the end of March to the end of April and got Covid.  We were also in a PH and stayed in our own cabin for our quarantine.  We were treated very much the same as Terri was on the Nautica.  We didn’t get any housekeeping nor did we need any.  I could certainly make our bed myself for the five days we were in quarantine!!  We certainly did not require any vacuuming or other cleaning like others on this board and we would not want to expose our housekeeping staff to Covid.

The comment regarding the “rich vs the poor” getting special treatment was in very poor taste and again like Terri, we also do not want to spend our money on alcoholic beverages and choose to instead get a larger cabin!  Everyone has different priorities and that is why cruising is so popular.

We have always been treated very nicely by Oceania and are booked again on Sirena and will certainly keep that reservation!

Ditto Billie.  Great to hear from you again as we go back to Riviera’s return to sailing days last Fall. Since one or two or three times I spoiled my DW with a PH or Oceania Suite or Owners Suite (an offer she could not refuse from Oceania) there is no way I am going to get her back in a smaller Veranda stateroom. While it may seem like a bit of extravagance, that walk in closet is a “deal closer”. We worked and worked and worked and saved and we get to choose how we spend it. JMHO.

Thank you for your comments.  I really do appreciate them. Just to clarify. We made our own bed every day, but asked to have the sheets changed because we felt it would help with fresh sheets after breathing on them since we had COVID and i was really sick. They were very willing to do that and cleaned the bathroom while they were there.  We never asked for that.  Then they called and asked if we wanted it again about two days later.  At first we refused, but they were very willing to help so we said okay.

We were very grateful.

I also thought that the remark was in poor taste and tried to turn it around.  it only got worse and thankfully the posts were removed. I did not feel that my comments warranted the verbal attacks I received.

We were very satisfied with the way were treated and cared for on the Nautica. We have no complaints.  I am sorry others did not feel the same.

Thank you again.

I did not look back to see that her posts were removed.......so glad that the moderators are working.  The remarks were uncalled for and so not respectful.  Thank you for your details on how Oceania handles quaratine which mirrors most everything else I have read.

We are also cruising the Mediterranean this Fall.  Our 54 day cruise on the Marina consists of four B2B segments so we will anticipat at least three Covid tests during the voyage.  What happens if my wife and/or I test positive on one of these occasions?  Are we quarantined individually/separately or escorted off the ship?

Quarantining would be a bummer but an extended balcony B3 would minimize the pain.  Leaving the ship would be BAD!

What compensation is Oceania offering for positive test results and resulting quarantine?

My wife and I (doubled dosed and boosted) caught Covid a couple of months ago.  We self-quarantined at home after taking Antigen tests.  Very minor symptoms (slight throat soreness/tired).  I tested negative after 4 days.  My wife tested positive up to 8 days after the initial positive result.  How would that scenario affect the quarantining process?

If one tests positive they move the sick one to another room.  If both test positive you can quarantine together in your own cabin. Whether you have to leave the ship depends on the regulations of the port (or so I was told by the doctor on board). In our case we tested positive on the first segment and were permitted to remain on board for the entire quarantine (6 days) even though it went into the next segment.  That is not to say that it will happen to you.  Each situation is different. if you test positive at the end of your cruise you will be escorted off the ship and finish your quarantine in a hotel of Oceania’s choosing.

As for compensation, we were refunded the daily amount for the days in quarantine, which I felt was quite generous (given the fact that we received free medical care, food and lodging). Some people received FCC. Go to FAQs on Oceania’s website and look at Health Considerations.  The answer is there regarding types of compensation regarding Covid.  Remember that you have to request it.

Hope this helps.

@Cruzin Terri See you're booked on the Alluring Caribbean sailing from Miami next February.  We are too, and hope we get a chance to meet.

I hope so too.  Are you on the Roll Call?  I woud like to get some off ship excursions booked but there is little activity.

Yes, we're on the roll call.  But we decided to do  ship tours this time because of the likelihood of missed ports and the complications of dealing with local operators for last minute cancelations.  We have enough anxiety without that head ache.

i'm not too worried about that because most of the people I book with do not want money until the tour is over or refund if the ship does not stop.  We could take this converstion to the Roll Call rather than here.  I don't want to hijack this thread.
