A Canadian takes on a B4B on Oasis 6/5/22 - 7/1/22

Recommended Posts

At lunch yesterday, there was a long line at Windjammer as they were opening so we went to Solarium Bistro for lunch.  I forgot to grab some photos but they were service the boarding day Paella that they always have in the windjammer. I think I also saw a curry and there was roasted chicken. I found it strange but they actually had burgers, hotdogs and fries as well.  Maybe they always have it there and I just never noticed? I just made myself a garden salad and had a little of the paella.

It was nice to see the Bistro open.  On several of our last sailings, it has not been open.

We are going to avoiding the MDR on these cruises. I am really tired of the menu and I am not a fan of most of the entrees.  Most of the time I end up getting multiple appetizers for my meal. Do Windjammer it will be for the most part!

I am doing Giovanni's on Allure next week so I hope all is well.  Let me know what YOU ate so I might think about it when I am ordering.

I am sure you will be fine 🙂  I have eaten at Gio's many times before and never had an issue.  I just won the lottery this time I guess lol

I had minestrone soup and some kind of salad and the chicken fettucine.  I have not been able to bring myself  to have minestrone soup since.  The fettucine definitely tasted weird - it almost had a fishy flavour to it.  I remember mentioning it to my husband how it did not taste right. I did not finish it because of the taste.

For wifi this week, we are each just using our two free 24 hrs and then when we are in Halifax we will be hotspotting off our phones.  When we are in Saint John, we will be crossing the street and using our own dang high speed wifi 🙂

I do not have any work calls scheduled for today so I decided to just do surf and see how it worked out with my work stuff.  Seems to be working great.  I was able to log into my VPN and open all of my work programs without issue.  I did not feel like working in the cabin today so I am camped out in the library in Central Park.  I have never been in here before - it is a great little spot.  It has been nice to see lots of people coming in to get books.  there are outlets and USB ports all around the room and little tables/desks.

Maybe I missed that part… so in St Johns you’ll be close to your own house??  WFS (Working from Ship) for four weeks sounds awesome.  Enjoy!!

We live about 40 miles from the cruise port in Halifax, I was hoping to go see Oasis, but, I have to work so that's not going to happen. My parents might go and see the ship, it will bring them happy memories of when they were on Oasis with my husband & I.

Had a quiet day yesterday.  I worked until 4:30 EST then headed to Broadway music trivia in the Schooner.  It was PACKED!  I have never seen so many people at a trivia before.  We got 17/10 which I thought was pretty good but the winners for 20 out of 20 🙂

We had a great dinner last night at Izumi.  When I checked in I told them I prepurchased mine and said we were using one of our BOGOs for hubby.  He said that was no problem and they seated us.  Confusion reigned for a bit when the check came.  They were first going to charge hubby $17.50.  Then when we explained his should be free, not 50% off there was much discussion among the waiter and I assume the manager of Izumi. Eventually they said they would need to refund my pre purchase and charge us onboard for the BOGO which is what I was originally expecting anyway so that was fine. It looks like however they refunded my pre purchase as OBC but I think they only charged us $17.50 instead of the $35 we should have been charged.

We both got the Prix Fixe option.  It included Miso Soup, one small plate each, two large plates each and a dessert.  They start off with edamame.  I forgot to take pics of the starts but I got the fried rice and Paul got the Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna.

For large plates we got:

Izumi Ryu Futomaki Roll

and Tonkotsu Ramen

The only dish we were disappointed in was the ramen.  It honestly did not taste like much of anything.  We loved everything else.

We did not opt for dessert. We are not really big dessert people and we had no room left anyway.

All of the tables in both sushi side and the hibachi side were completely full.  Service was slow and we were waiting quite awhile before we started getting our food but once it started coming, it was constant.  I think we’re ended up being there for 2 hours.

This is where I have been working most of the time.  Great spot right next to Park Cafe and has great wifi reception.  We also have no issues in there getting our LTE/3G signal. Today we are working off our cellphone hotspot since we are in Canada and it has worked great.

We are currently working up on Deck 16 in the Solarium.  We love the seating seat in the little alcove beside the bar on Oasis class.  We spent a lot of time in their area on Allure in November on our B3B.C8AE848E-73B4-4236-8728-260C324A8C67.thumb.jpeg.9540f512da31082419de90f629c1a271.jpeg

My old stomping grounds in Halifax.  We won’t be able to visit as all board is at 4:30 which is just when i am finishing work.  You can see Citadel Hill if you zoom in.

I hope you get to see Aqua80 (thought I guess you have 4 weeks to do so). I really enjoyed it on our cruise a couple weeks ago. I am probably aging myself but the music is what I listened to growing up so it was fun (and everything was quite well done).

I wish I could work from the ship 😞 I am working from home but have to do so from Canada so sadly it's not an option. That would be amazing though. Only 10 years or so until I can retire.

Pro Tip:  😉

You can "trade in" the dessert for another small plate.  (i.e., have two small plates and two large plates and no dessert)

We will definitely be seeing it at some point!  We did not get to it in January sadly

You will the award for best advice so far! I never puke have even though to ask that!  We might go back for my bday on 6/23 so I will definitely take advantage of that!  They might need a wheelbarrow to get me back to my cabin though lol

@JessyCruises - A quick question as I plan my day in your hometown tomorrow.

Will the new Container Village block my quick walk to the Farmers Market?

Not sure if you are already off but I don’t think so. Our condo is left on Water St so we just turned left and walked across the street.  We avoided the village all together.  We are going to go check it out after work.  I hope the rain is not too bad today!

The view of our Condo building this morning from deck 16 of the ship. It is positively dwarfed by Oasis.

Does anyone know if Oasis has resumed My Time Family Dining?  I’ve seen conflicting reports as to whether it has been reinstated.

Sorry I am not sure as I don’t have little ones.  I will try to find out

It was very weird getting off the ship and just crossing the street.  I already have my first load of laundry going 😂
