Alaska and the Inside passage/Denali Explorer

Denali experienced a rock slide after we purchased this extension. It limits the tour at mile 43. Does anyone know if Viking is planning anything to make up for this? I couldn’t get any information when I called. Thanks

Don't remember how far it went before but don't be thinking you're going to see a mountain.

Even if limited to Mile 43, you will have some spectacular views (pending general visibility) and potential for wildlife sightings that are incomparable. We were lucky when we went in 2018 that we were able to see the majority of the Denali mountain on several days. Most people may only catch a brief glimpse even if you were able to go further into the park.

On a clear day you can see Denali from Anchorage. There are, however, very few such days.

In the summer that is. We lived in Anchorage in the 1980s. Yearly precipitation was about 14 inches—most of which fell as rain in the summer, snow from Octoberish to Mayish. Most tourists in summer never see Denali because of rain and clouds. I camped at Denali several times in the ‘80s and had the luck of the Irish because I always got a spectacular view of the mountain. YMMV.

Haha! Climate change. Haven’t been to Alaska since 2006 but we follow the weather and occasionally hear from friends. I used to say when I lived there that it wouldn’t be such a bad place to live if the temps were about 10 degrees warmer. It’s happened, but has brought its own consequences in changing the flora and fauna.
