HOW TO SPEND OBC

Does anyone know if OBC can be used to upgrade via Move Up?
We have suddenly been given £922, due to a price drop, after we have paid in full, for our cruise on Silhouette- 30/07/22.

Other thoughts:

iLounge

Apple Mac ( my grand daughter suggests I will have difficulty carrying it home as the keyboard and monitor are fixed).

iPad mini ( mine no longer updates to IOS 13.5, so I cannot update my banking app).

Keyboard, for my present iPad.

Premium drinks package( we already have the Classic based on AI).

Speciality dining ( I am Dairy Intolerant).

Excursions (all that we want are already booked).

Many thanks.

Move-up requires a credit card, no option to use OBC.

Apple haven't had a fixed keyboard on a Mac for a long time now, but their stock is limited and prices are not usually great either, especially on a UK round-trip where you may find that VAT remains in play...

I'd certainly have thought the iPad update was a great idea though, but don't leave it too long once onboard as people have been reporting low/no stock as they are trying to clear the older stock they have.

Do check which versions they are offering, but all should be capable of iOS 15 (sounds like you have iPad Mini 3 or earlier).

Firstly I would suggest phoning Celebrity and asking them about transferring your OBC to an upgrade. Absolutely nothing to loose. I don’t think the computerised system would work.

We were on board Silhouette last September and iLounge stock was minimal. I did upgrade my antiquated iPad (free gift from a long haul flight) for a newer one but it was the same as the one my son had purchased over a year ago. Hence, board knowing the level of upgrade you want. For me, my new/old iPad is fine and we were in a ‘use it or loose it’ OBC situation. No cheaper or more expensive than I could have secured it at home.

The thing I would strongly recommend you to do is enjoy the range of speciality restaurants on board. I know you are regular cruisers and probably have already visited each of them at least once but there is a wonderful choice both casual and formal on Silhouette…You could look at pre booking a package or booking once on board. If you inform them of your dairy intolerance they will cater for it. Personally, I would pop in each restaurant I intended to visit  to discuss with the M’D the choices available. They will be able able to clearly indicate dishes dairy free anyway, dishes they can modify and possibly some additional options. Whilst it may mean pre ordering some items rather than browsing the menu on the night I think it would be a better option…We loved having lunch in The Porch and in Sushi on sea days when the buffet can be busy. We found them both havens of peace and tranquillity. We never saw either of them busy so perhaps you could negotiate a package on board that includes a lunch or two?

If you are enjoying speciality restaurants I would recommend that you enjoy some nicer wine with your meals too. If you are generally happy with the classic package rather than upgrade to premium you could simply look at per glass extra options or a bottle or three?

Whatever you decide to do, sincere best wishes for a fantastic cruise!

PS. it may help others in a similar position if you could feed back if you are able to arrange to use some OBC to upgrade…

As we are doing a cruise that includes Gibraltar, there shouldn’t be included VAT, so that why cruise ships visit. Also, St Petersburg ( but of course that won’t happen atm).

We have actually bought x2 iPads on previous cruises and not paid VAT. Also the £/$ exchange rate was excellent at the time, so meant I could buy 128gb and avoid Customs duty on return.

Thank you for the Lunch time suggestions, that’s one thing I’ve never considered, as we don’t go to Speciality restaurants, mainly due to my Dairy intolerance. However, as we have a number of sea days on this cruise, that certainly could be a consideration.

I do remember reading Jim’s advice re getting OBC from the Casino I believe. I will have to trawl through again.

Thanks for the advice about the Mac.

My original iPad is certainly a mini and won’t upgrade from 12.5 to IOS 13. I do get an occasional Security upgrade though.

Because this gets asked so often I've compiled a list of things to spend OBC on. The only thing I know of now that you CAN'T buy with OBC is a deposit on a Future Cruise. You need a credit card for that.  Also, there may be some card game in the casino with a cash only buy-in.   If they do a fundraiser, like selling t-shirts to “save the reefs” and the like, expect to need cash for that.  Otherwise, here you go:

*Acupuncture

*Airport transfers

*Alcove Rental (some ships)

*Apple products etc. and Ilounge classes

*Art Auction Purchases

*Babysitting

*Barber Shop services

*Behind the Scenes Tours

*Beverages -- Alcoholic, carbonated soft drinks, specialty coffees and teas, bottled water — if not in your package, also beverages above your package limits

*Bingo and Deal or No Deal

*Bottles of wine

*Casino

*Chef’s Table

*Corkage charged if you bring your own bottles of wine to the MDR

*Duty free liquor and cigarettes

*Extra cost entrees and other items in Main Dining Room and specialty restaurants

*Extend Your Stay program

*Fitness classes

*Flowers

*Gelato

*Gift shop souvenirs, purses, watches, cosmetics, clothing, jewelry, etc.

*Gratuities, and extra gratuities

*Guests dining with you in Luminae (applies to Suite Passengers only)

*Guest entertainers' CD's and DVD's

*Hair and nail salon

*Hollywood hot glass experiences (some ships)

*Internet if not in your package, also Internet upcharges

*Laundry/pressing/drycleaning

*Liquor Tasting events

*Luggage Valet

*Martini Flights

*Medical Center purchases (but not treatments)

*Mini bar

*Portrait photo sessions

*Pay-per-view movies

*Persian Gardens passes

*Personal Training Sessions

*Photos & cameras

*Room service up charge items, and late night delivery fee

*Ryde spinning classes

*Shore Excursions

*Shuttle to town (some ports)

*Spa -- massages and treatments

*Specialty restaurants

*Teeth Whitening

*Telephone calls using ship's system

*Transfer to another passenger's account

*Voyage in Review DVD

*Wine and liquor tastings

*Zumba

Same here we have just on £2,400 OBC, partly comes from their total mess up with a cabin on a previous cruise so carried forward and added to further OBC, would they let you do the same and carry some forward, has to be worth asking?  Feel a trip to the jewellery store coming on for me.
