janmcn Posted July 6, 2022 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2022 Received this from AA today… Please be advised that the Sumner Tunnel, a major tunnel connecting downtown Boston to Logan Airport, is currently undergoing construction and will be closed during weekends throughout the busy summer travel season. As a result, the Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), owner and operator of Logan Airport, is urging passengers to use various HOV modes available when traveling to and from the airport, including MBTA’s Blue Line, Silver Line (free from Logan Airport to downtown Boston) and water ferry service, Logan Express bus service to Framingham, Woburn, Braintree and Peabody at the North Shore Mall, and private bus service. Those coming to the airport by car or renting a car should allow for 1 additional hour of drive time due to expected traffic delays. Rare 1025cruise Posted July 6, 2022 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2022 Yes, sounds about right. I flew in early June, the first weekend the tunnel was closed. It took me an hour to get from the parking garage to the highway. Should have been 10 minutes, max.
Nitemare Posted July 7, 2022 #3 Share Posted July 7, 2022 Important, yes. Urgent? It's been going on for a month now, and as 1025 said it can cause real problems. Public Transit is the best solution.
Rare 1025cruise Posted July 7, 2022 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2022 At least right now its only weekends. Eventually the tunnel will be closed for a few months completely.
Nghthawke Posted July 13, 2022 #5 Share Posted July 13, 2022 Any recommendations on what is best travel suggestion to get from Boston cruise terminal (Black Falcon Cruise Terminal correct?) to Logan Airport?
Nitemare Posted July 13, 2022 #6 Share Posted July 13, 2022 Depends on what you mean by "best". Cheapest is MBTA Silver Line bus/train Easiest is taxi or Uber

If you don't have a ton of luggage and don't mind walking 15 minutes, the Silver Line to the airport is easy. If either of those aren't true, a Lyft/Uber/taxi shouldn't be too bad. Nghthawke Posted July 13, 2022 #8 Share Posted July 13, 2022 Thank you! I will print out the map for the Silver Line stop so we can find it easily when we get off the ship. It looks like it has a dedicated transit lane?

Part of it is, but the part you'd be on the airport isn't. At Silver Line Way it drops it's electric cables and takes the tunnel to the airport using the same road as everyone else. It does a circuit of all the terminals, so make sure you know your terminal (and gate if in B as there are two stops). In theory they announce the airlines, but it's iffy how clearly you can hear them.
Nghthawke Posted July 13, 2022 #10 Share Posted July 13, 2022 Alright. Thank you much! I have taken everything down and printed a transit map so pretty sure we can manage. Looks like there is a bus stop at the Boston Cruiseport so we can board the bus there (SL2) and then transfer to the airport bus (SL1).

You definitely can do that, but depending on what you have and how the weather is and such, it is also walkable to the SL1.
