Tauck, Blue Danube - to sport coat or not to sport coat? ( or suit)

This fall we have a Tauck river cruise planned.  Sport coat and tie are advised for gentlemen for a dinner or two.

DH would prefer to get by with just a dress shirt and tie…a coat adds over two pounds to our luggage.

Could  someone  who has done the “Blue Daube” cruise please advise me as to what the fellows actually wore?

If there is a special dinner ashore, most men wear jackets.  Otherwise, onboard there’s no event worth getting very dressed up for.  Has your husband considered not packing his sport coat and just wearing on the flights?

We have done several tours with Tauck. There are at least 3 occasions when a sport coat may be appropriate: the welcome reception dinner, the special event onshore and the farewell reception dinner. 
 

I remember once checking into the hotel in Munich on our first day and meeting a couple who were also on the tour. They had just seen the official itinerary and the husband decided that he really needed a sport coat after all. 
 

So they left the hotel, walked downtown, and bought one for him!

Even if you end up looking like ‘Mr Blobby’ and wear a jacket with a wet coat over it to travel.

I guess we will find room in the suitcase for his suit.  Perhaps I can eliminate a pair or two of my shoes!
