Baltimore Scooter Rentals

Well, I really did it.  I twisted my knee pretty bad and I cruise on Thursday.  I’ll need to see a specialist asap, but because I always think ahead, I wanted to find out about scooter rentals in Baltimore that drop off at the pier.  I am in a ocean view cabin too.

Can someone provide the name of a company?  I’m hoping since its 3 days away it won’t be too late.

At a national level, Scootaround and Special Needs at Sea.

If you’re local, you might find a better deal with a local shop. There are a number of them, but I don’t remember who we’ve used.

You should also contact your cruise line's Access Department to advise them you will be having mobility difficulties.   You might ask if they have any accessible staterooms you could switch to.  You need to be able to get your scooter through the stateroom door.

If you rent from Special Needs at Sea or Scootaround they will be able to tell you where you will pick up your scooter (pier or your stateroom).

Thank you all.  I also realize getting a scooter 3 days before a cruise may not be possible either.   Everything is closed today so I’ll see how bad my knee feels in the morning.  If I need a doctor, my next calls will be to the two scooter companies you recommended and the Access department.

I was thinking the cabin will be small for a scooter and I thought well maybe leave it outside the room, but it dawned on me they have to be charged.  Thanks for your quick feedback.

What cruise line are you going to be on?     I've never heard of one that allows you to leave a scooter outside the room.

Royal Caribbean.  I guess that means I can’t leave it outside the cabin.  I’m not even sure I can get a scooter so close to sailing either.

I'm not sure if Scootaround services Royal, but they always have scooters available for rental, even if you rent at the port.  They will also be able to tell you which scooters will fit through the doorways. We always get a regular cabin on Carnival and can fit a "transportable" scooter through the door.

You will not be able to leave the scooter in the hallway on any cruise line.  It's not a cruise line rule, it's a SOLAS regulation.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for that!  I contacted Scootaround and I have a confirmed scooter for Thursday.  I soooo didn't want to get a scooter, but I woke up and my knee has swelled up and short walking is okay but i know how much walking can happen on these cruises!

Scootaround is also sending instructions to break down the scooter (Pride Go Go sport) to make the room in the cabin a little manageable.  I'm in a Oceanview cabin on Enchantment and Scootaround confirmed their 21.5 inch width fits in the 23 inch wide doorway.

Did you look into a knee scooter? You kneel on it with the bad side and it goes with you.

Those work great with a foot/ankle injury, but her injury is to her knee.  Probably not a good idea to be putting that kind of pressure on it 😉

oh yes...any pressure on my knee would kill me right now LOL.  I can walk a bit with a limp, but it's stiff and a bit painful.  I go see the specialist on wednesday.  I tore my ACL twice and this feels the same.  My knee gave out side ways.  There's swelling and crunchiness in there LOL.  The ibuprofen helps a bit though.

I went ahead and booked the scooter because I know excursions and walking around will be hard.  I think I can manage the ship, but it will be with pain and I figure why go through that if I don't need to.
