smilesonfaces Posted August 10, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2022 We are going on a short cruise and a drinks package is not available. I am considering taking onboard 2 or 3 bottles of wine and also a bottle of champagne for our anniversary dinner. I understand about the corkage fee but could I ask at what point is this actually charged ? Do I take the bottle to dinner with me and they charge then ? Do people find taking a bottle in to dinner a little awkward ? Do I declare at some point on boarding that we have more than a bottle each ? I understand we are allowed one bottle each. thank you. Rare carlmm Posted August 10, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2022 No need to declare the bottles. Just take them on board. Yes, you are actually charged the corkage fee the first (or only) night you consume the wine in the MDR. Instead of taking the wine with you to dinner you might also bring it at lunch time and ask for the sommelier to keep it cool or what ever is appropriate for the respective wine and to have it ready for you at dinner time. Neither way I find awkward unless one carries it around to other events before.
cpc3639 Posted August 10, 2022 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2022 Also feel free to enjoy your wine or any other drink you take on board in your stateroom. We always take 6 bottles with no issues at all. Absolutely no need to declare.

read2learn Posted August 10, 2022 #10 Share Posted August 10, 2022 Thank you. Do they confiscate it until the end of the cruise (as some lines do)or may you enjoy it during your trip?.

No. You can keep it, drink it in your stateroom for free or take it to a bar or restaurant and pay corkage.
LeCommandant Posted August 10, 2022 #12 Share Posted August 10, 2022 thanks for your replies! How much is the corkage fee ? Should we pay it every time we bring a bottle to the restaurant ?
PORT ROYAL Posted August 10, 2022 #13 Share Posted August 10, 2022 Take the wines, fizz etc., to the dining room lunchtime on boarding. Discuss forthcoming menus with Md’H to select appropriate. If no match, may one suggest to discuss the list of Bin Ends, being excellent wines at very reasonable prices. The Sommelier will open, breathe and decant your fine wine, ensuring it’s in perfect condition when dining.
smilesonfaces Posted August 10, 2022 Author #14 Share Posted August 10, 2022 Thanks everyone. I did wonder if it would have felt awkward taking wine in to the dining room but it sounds like it will be fine. Thank you for your responses. I have read that the corkage is $20 but also $25 so I’m not quite sure of the cost.

PORT ROYAL Posted August 10, 2022 #16 Share Posted August 10, 2022 (edited) There is also no restrictions on alcohol and mixers for stateroom consumption. Be afraid, be very afraid, as there is a bottle of PA lurking in one’s stateroom Edited August 10, 2022 by PORT ROYAL PA

That way you can cheer yourselves up if your main luggage is a bit late arriving - which it usually isn't.

smilesonfaces Posted October 9, 2022 Author #21 Share Posted October 9, 2022 Just to update. We took 3 bottles of wine onboard and a bottle of champagne😊. Husband took the champagne to the Verandah in the afternoon and it was waiting in an ice bucket at the table for us. We were not even charged the corkage fee.

Typically, they are low/mid range, say $60 upwards. Hopefully, one will be able to discover an absolute gem, being at a price one would never dreamed possible. Sommeliers are usually kind and helpful when being asked for the list of Bin Ends. It shows one understands the game.
