aqua07 Posted August 11, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2022 We will be sailing on October 19... First time in French Polynesia. We are thinking of renting a car for a day in Moorea. Any recommendation? Are there any car rental agencies close to where the ship will be? I am a bit clueless about all this! Thanks for your help. Wendy The Wanderer Posted August 13, 2022 #2 Share Posted August 13, 2022 We've used Albert's twice with no problems. They are not particularly close to the port but will pick you up and take you to the rental office, which is over near Cook's Bay. On return, they drop you off at the dock after handing in your car. SWFLAOK Posted August 18, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 18, 2022 If you can't drive a standard transmission, make sure the rental agency knows that you need an automatic. The last time we were on Moorea, only standard transmissions were brought to the dock. One renter could not drive it, and the rental company was trying to find an automatic. I don't remember the name of the rental company that we used. We also rented a car for our post cruise IC Tahiti stay, and the car that they brought to the hotel for us was a standard. They said that was all they had so we took it. We're old enough to know how to drive a standard, but when going up and down steep hills, we prefer an automatic. Avis has newer cars and in better condition. Albert's has the better price. Actually Albert's will take you to their field office which is in front of the old IC Moorea. Note: on my last trip I rented from Albert's. The car was a bit tired. Several idiot lights were red and I took note. No problems but make sure you take a good peek and note everything in front of the rep and have it noted on the paperwork.
aqua07 Posted August 27, 2022 Author #7 Share Posted August 27, 2022 Thanks for all the good advice! My husband can drive a standard transmission, so no issues there.
