There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby:

17th Street

Tara Steak & Lobster is right next door to Extended Stay America (which is next door to Holiday Inn Express)... http://www.tarasteakandlobsterhouse.com/

Carlos and Pepe's (Mexican) & Durty Harry's (bar with food) are in the same shopping center as Tara. There's also a small diner in that strip mall.

Einstein Bros. Bagels is across the street from Holiday Inn Express.

Bimini Boatyard and Bravo (great Italian restaurant) are both across the street from Holiday Inn Express, and about a block east, opposite the Renaissance Hotel... http://www.bravoitaliano.com/

Jack Jackson's new restaurant FISH is across the street from the Renaissance hotel, attached to the Convention Center complex at the entrance to Port Everglades... http://www.fish-fl.com/

Chuck's Steakhouse... http://www.chucksflorida.com/

And Waxy O'Connors are both across the street from Embassy Suites, a long block west of Holiday Inn Express... http://www.waxys.com/

Outback Steakhouse and Del Rio Tex Mex are just west of Embassy Suites, and Quarterdeck is across the street and a block north of Embassy Suites on Cordova Road, just beyond Winn-Dixie... http://www.quarterdeckrestaurant.com/

Kelly's Landing is a great New England style seafood place in a strip mall on Cordova Road, across the street from Winn-Dixie.

If you want some excellent ice cream, Aspen Ice Cream is in the large yellow strip mall across the street from Tara and Carlos and Pepe's... http://www.aspenicecream.com/

There are 3 large strip malls around Holiday Inn Express - More or less across the street, next door, and behind, as well as several smaller ones. There are at least a dozen other small restaurants scattered throughout those strip malls, plus a number of fast food and carry-out places in the area as well... You'll never go hungry along that section of SE 17th Street, there's something for every taste and budget.

Those are just the ones that you can easily walk to, if you take the Water Taxi you can easily get to dozens more. The nearest Water Taxi stop is 2 long blocks east, under the SE 17th Street Bridge, in front of the Ft Lauderdale Grande (former Marriott Marina) ... http://www.watertaxi.com/FortLauderdale/FLLHome.Asp

There are multiple liquor stores nearby. Many big grocery stores and all the chain stores you can think of. Many restaurants, pizza, drug stores. If you forgot anything you can get it within walking distance. We stayed at Amerisuites on Feb 3 and had a very good experience. I was worried going there but left with a very positive feeling and would book a room there again.

We have stayed at both the Comfort Inn on Stirling Rd and the Amerisuites just off 17th SE and can tell as of Feb. 10 this year there was nothing wrong with the Amerisuites for the price.

We had a room on the 5th floor overlooking the parking lot and it was fine. Clean (even the carpet) which looked new - there was some paint peeling in the bathroom but remember this is a very humid climate.

The staff was fine and they serve a full hot breakfast but the area is small and the hotel was full - so get there early!!

Have a great cruise!

My DW and I stayed there twice last Nov. Before and after the cruise. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. They had a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and from there to the port. Worked out real well.

There is a very new Publix a couple of blocks to the East for your juice purchases. It's in a new shopping center with some real nice stores.

John

Hi,:) I have also stayed at Amerisuites before. Twice actually. Everytime

I read I negative review I just assume it was that person's

unfortunate circumstance.

I would stay there again without worry.

As John just posted, there is a new Publix within walking distance!

Enjoy your cruise:)

Think grocery stores can only sell beer and wine ?

If google maps is accurate, think this might be Amerisuite location:

http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=1851+SE+10th+Ave,Port+Everglades,+FL

[/url]

Two liquor store that should be near:

Crown Wine and Spirits

http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=1645+Cordova+Rd,Port+Everglades,+FL

67 Liquors

http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=1317+Se+17th+St,Port+Everglades,+FL

Still curious if this coupon actually works:

If google maps is accurate, think this might be Amerisuite location:

zydecocruiser

If you look at the google satellite the dark spot to the bottom left of the tack is the shadow of the hotel. The hotel is right below it. If you look to the right of the hotel there is a big vacant lot with the white oil tanks to the East. The big vacant lot is the new shopping center with the Publix in it. I think you're right on the beer and wine. The building to the North of the hotel is a Mexican resturant and the next building North is The OutBack Steak House. It appears as a white spot.

A big new liquor store opened last week in the same shopping center as the Publix. It's called Total Sprits and it's the biggest liquor store I've ever seen. Hundreds of beers, wine by the thousands, every size and brand of the hard stuff, soda and waters. It's overkill.
