Easy Snorkeling trip

We will have a port call in Costa Maya next week and are thinking about a snorkeling trip. Are there excursions being sold at the port or are they through the beach bars? We aren't interested in a full beach bar day but would enjoy a couple hour snorkeling trip. What would be the average price of a trip for 2? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

There are several spots along the malecon in Mahahual where you can go a snorkel tour off the reef.

I believe most have websites where you can reserve a boat. but if traffic is lite you can probably do walkups.

Dr. Dive. (next to Yayas)

Mahahual Dive Centre (next to No Hoch Kay)

Gypsea Divers(between Nacional Beach Club and Jaime's Blue Reef)

PepeDive (next to Jaime's Blue Reef)

Dreamtime Dive Center (south of malecon  along road to Maya Chan)

Not sure what you mean by “full beach bar day” (AI?). Snorkeling vendors are independent and can be booked separately but some people find it easier to combine through a beach bar, who act as an agent at a slightly higher price. There are several beach bars that are not AI and easy enough to stop in for a drink or two after snorkeling.

Crew has suggested some vendors to try. As he says you can take your chances on the day but keep in mind these are small vendors with limited boats, crew etc - it will depend on how heavy the port load is on your day, and how good the weather is. If you are not too bothered take your chances, If it is important to you book in advance. Or you can snorkel from the shore.

Thank you for all the info. We went with Dr. Dive at a rate of $25 per person. Very professional and a great tour for us.

That’s cheap. How long was the actual time in the water?

was it clear with lots of fish and corals.

Never been to Ocean Cay but we are booked for next year. It looks like there is a shipwreck snorkeling excursion. Here is a video

Could you recommend some shore spots to snorkel?

with a beach bar is fine as long as no harassment by sellers.

You are unlikely to find a beach bar in Mahahual where you aren’t bothered by vendors.

Snorkeling from shore depends on distance to reef which you can probably assess by satellite view on google maps. Some people have had success at Blue Kay although reviews have been poor since cruising resumed.
