cathydev Posted September 1, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2022 I booked Celebrity Equinox to Alaska for June 2023 S1 2128 on Resort Deck. After reading through the entire "S" class cabin post and reviewing the spreadsheet, I think I'm more unsure and have still have some questions. I've looked at several videos on cruisedeckmapper and youtube and it seems the overhang really hinders the view and makes the space feel very enclosed, along with support poles coming down to further disrupt the view. With the lido deck above and the overhang I'm wondering if I made a bad choice. No other rooms available on starboard side. See pic of Equinox room 2126 I've attached. room right next to 2128. The picture feels so constricting. I also booked a HAL cruise on Koningsdam in a Neptune Suite (refundable deposit). Price is almost identical and includes the same perks - wifi, drinks, tips etc. I think I prefer the itinerary of HAL slightly better, but not enough to sway my trip either way. I like the Equinox has balcony doors that slide open as opposed to Koningsdam doors open out. I was so excited to score a suite in a price range that worked for me on Celebrity, I wish I had paid better attention as I wouldn't have booked it knowing location. I am bummed because I didn't pay attention to the deck plan and will lose my $500 deposit if I cancel, otherwise it's a good rate. Perhaps I need some reassurances, input, guidance. I want to be able to sit on balcony and relax, take pictures and enjoy the view. Alaska has so much scenery high and low! If you'd had one of these rooms, did you feel hemmed in, constricted? Where you able to take nice pictures? If anyone has some scenic photos you've taken from your sky suite balcony please share. And any pictures from a seated position would be helpful. 39august Posted September 1, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 1, 2022 This view does not bother us at all. We routinely stay in these Sky Suites. I think the corner aft suites from deck 11 down have uncovered balconies. Of course, those cost more and there is a pole or two inside those suites.
hrhdhd Posted September 1, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 1, 2022 You will have a fine view. The balcony is quite wide, and the pole won't be an issue.

Sometimes they'll run the same price or pretty close, but yes usually it's more. I'm trying one for the first time in the Mexican Riviera. For me, I love being out in the sun so I actually moved from a Suite Guarantee to a corner SS for $400 to be sure I'd not be fully shaded. Lots of people have the opposite preference though.
bigbenboys Posted September 2, 2022 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2022 We have 2114 on Solstice booked for next Friday. I did do a move up for a RS....time will tell. I'm really happy with the overhang.
snowballs mom Posted September 2, 2022 #6 Share Posted September 2, 2022 We stayed in a Celebrity Suite on that same deck. I really liked the overhang since I do not like sitting in the sun. In addition, we had rain off and on a couple days and the overhang is large enough we had no problem sitting outside during that time. 1
TraderSam Posted September 2, 2022 #7 Share Posted September 2, 2022 @cathydev I’m totally with you on this and asked the same question a short while ago. 👍🏻 Every time I look at images like the one you have posted, it has put me off booking a stateroom on that deck. I decided that for Alaska, the overhang getting in the way of my view was a risk I wasn’t willing to take and so I’ve booked a verandah a couple of decks down. I get that this is totally different from being in Suite but wanted to say that I share your concerns on feeling hemmed in and missing “upper views”.👍🏻
