Dinner booking online for first night

The first night Specialty are generally  booked out as much as 6 months in advance especially on a TA.  When you get aboard stop by the specialty and see if you can book.  They do hold back bookings and there are often cancellations.

Check when you first board as they may have openings due to cancellations.

"due to cancellations "?

Or, due to the fact that the Maitre'd holds back preferred times ( $$ is King ) ?

That's the way it works ------( for the xx time ).

C'est la vie---That's life.

I've talked to many of the Maitr' D and it isn't them holding back.  They don't have access to the reservation system until 24 hours before the cruise begins.    Doing a B2B in a RS I have tried to book for first night and was told he would take my name and once the system was available  would try to get my preferred time.    As a matter of fact I found that to be the same for shore excursions.
