LIVE Voyager of the Seas Oct. 2nd, 2022 - Oct. 9th, 2022

My wife Jan and I boarded Voyager this morning in Boston.  This is our journey. 

 

Yesterday,  Saturday,  we drove from home south of Birmingham,  AL, to Nashville.   We did this in order to have a direct flight to Boston.   The drive was easy on the flight uneventful.   We checked into our hotel,  the Westin seaport around 10pm.  We were up and out this morning slightly after 10 for our 10:30 boarding.   We were at the terminal through security and on the ship shortly after 11.  

 

 

first beverages in the VK lounge.   Then lunch at Giovannis (should have been Chops but it wasn't open) 

 

 

We then had a couples massage in the spa.  It was great,  except for the selling.   We just kept saying no thanks.

By the time the massage was over,  our room was ready. 

 

 

no luggage yet,  but then i found it - on the dock!

We were a little late leaving our due to traffic.   But the skies were colorful.

Last night was Chops for dinner. Valentin was our waiter and he was excellent.  Appetizers were shrimp cocktail for Jan and the bacon/pork belly for me.  The bacon was not that great - a bit too fatty and the sauce was very ketchupy.  The shrimp were good.  

 

 

Jan had the bone-in ribeye with a baked potato and I had the filet with asparagus.  Both were very good, and we tried some of each others, but I thought the filet was the best.  We were too full for dessert.

 

It was 9:00pm after we ate so we walked around the ship a bit.  Jan had a latte at Cafe Promenade, and she was disappointed that no pumpkin lattes were available.  We had to get up early the next day for an 8:45am start to our Bar Harbor shorex, so we decided to turn in.

Last night, the seas were rocking the ship quite a bit.  Not enough to make waling difficult or cause any issue, but it was more motion than we usually feel on s hip not in a storm.  I guess it's because we were running parallel to the waves.  It did make me sleep fairly well, though!

Have a great cruise! We were on the Voyager cruise back to Boston and we really liked the ship. We had a very nice JS, looks like you are in a GS, hope it is great for you.

Do you know if Chops was open for lunch at all on Day 1?  We are sailing Voyager in a few weeks and have reservations for Chops lunch once on-board.

I was thinking maybe they got there early and since Chops wasn't open yet, they decided to go to Giovanni's (which was open).  Or another reason? 

 

Not sure, but hoping to get an answer from rudeney at some point who can confirm either way.

All specialty dining venues are open for lunch from 11:30 to 1pm. There are no different hours for different restaurants. You're welcome.

Okay, or a different reason (other than the hours)?  Maybe a private function?  I really don't know.

 

Was hoping rudeney would answer at some point, and can we PLEASE leave it at that?  Thank you.

 

Apologies for the (minor) thread diversion.  Hope you enjoy Bar Harbor today.  Can't wait to go back... love the lobster at the West Street Cafe.

@Nabalab - I'm wondering about Chops as well after OPs comment about it being closed.  The app shows all the restaurants being open for lunch on day 1 but the only lunch you can buy on the Cruise Planner for any day is for Chops which when purchasing, allows you to do a lunch reservation for day 1 and the 2 sea days on the itinerary.  Not sure why they wouldn't have them all available.

 

Thanks @rudeney for the review!  Could you get some pics of the wine lists in Chops and Gio's for me?  Hope you have a blast and smooth seas the rest of your trip!

Thank you for doing a review. I will be sailing on her in March for southern Caribbean. We are always on oasis class ships so this is gonna be quite different for us.

I will!   I do know that one cabernet that I tried to order a glass of in Giovannis was not available, so they substituted another brand that was over the $13 limit of my DBP, but they did not charge me.   I didn't look at the wine menu on Chops but just asked for a glass of cabernet and I think he brought me the same thing.  I've asked Jan to remind me to get pics.

Thank you for posting your adventure! Myself and 7 others in our group are boarding on the 9th when you get off! Could you post pictures of the daily compass if possible? I am curious about the nightly entertainment in the Royal Theater specifically.

We cruised on Voyager last week and also had Chops reserved for the 1st day lunch.  Upon arriving, we were told they were not serving lunch and sent us to Giovanni's.  We had a complimentary lunch in Giovanni's, and were rescheduled to Chops for lunch on Friday.  Our lunch in Chops was OUTSTANDING!  I wish you smooth seas and sunny skies for the remainder of your trip.

Hmmm, I have Chops reserved for day 1 lunch for our sailing on the 16th.  A free lunch at Gio's would be quite welcome!
